Didn't find much on the subject in the search option...
I've seen plenty of references to the EGR replacment being done... Was curious if anyone has had the complete EGR block performed?
Last year I parked after only an hour haul, shut off, then restarted only to have light green smoke pouring out of the exhaust. Only around 80K miles back then.
My ace mechanic told me the EGR unit failed, not just the valve as expected (previous owner had it repaired once at 50K). This in turn ruined the oil cooler amongst other things...
The shop did the following:
- Pulled the EGR unit (not replaced)
- welded up the blocking plate (didn't get specifics on this work)
- replaced the oil cooler
- flushed and replaced the oil/filter as it was contaminated by coolant
- reprogrammed the Ex not to look for the EGR (had to buy the programmer, $300 or so)
All in all $1,800 ... If I had gone in and had the block done before the failure... only $600.
6.0 PSD runs smoother and it picked up 1mpg overall

Garrett is a great guy to work with, an ex-Ford mechanic that opened his own shop. Work is top notch and his parking lot is usually full, wrecker trucks, hot shots and the like...
