Stock 400M Never been rebuilt. Still Roars as loud as ever and performs great. Still has the original 2 barrel carb. I can never believe how well it performs for having close to 300,000 miles on it! It's incredible!! No one ever believes me but I get 17 miles per gallon on the freeway!!! I started hearing a knocking in it around 250,000 I think it's a bad lifter. I plan on taking it all the way to 300,000 and maybe farther if it keeps performing this good, then I will rebuild it. Everyone tells me to put a 4 barrel on it. I can't even imagine how much power it would have. Right now I'm content with the power and the good gas mileage.
Drivetrain:
Manual Transmission (original & never rebuilt). NP205 "BULLET PROOF" Transfercase (original & never rebuilt) Dana 44 (Front)4.11 (open), 9" (rear) 4.10 (open) with YUKON ring and pinion. I'm going to install ARB lockers as soon as I have the $$$.Driveline angle has been corrected to best match my lift height.
Notes:
LIFT: (front) 3 inch Coil Spring (RANCHO) & (rear) 4.5 inch full leaf spring (Superlift) New leaf spring pirches (corrected angle) 35x12.50x15 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires. Steel white spoke rims painted black.
I love this truck! Thankfully my wife does too!
!!!!!--I caution everyone here about block lifts!!! I had blocks in the rear and they were installed professionally. Rancho requires that you stack their block on top of the original tapered block! DO NOT STACK BLOCKS!!! Even with regular retorqueing there is to much vibration. The center pin on my drivers side block sheared clean off!!!!! This alowed my entire rearend to twist. Sending me out of control and ALMOST TO MY DEATH!!! Just pay a little extra and get the full leafs.
