My first Ex was a V10. I really loved the motor - got ~16.5 on the highway at best, even got ~10 towing my Jeep. Never blew a plug but it's my understanding they have a longer plug to solve that.

I traded it for a 7.3L since that's what I was looking for, ultimately.

I have 2005 EB 6.8L. I am getting 10.1 mpg around town and up to 16 mpg on long trips (downhill wind at back (Colorado to Kansas) going up hill into the wind we are getting 13-14 mpg. Yes driving an excursion these days is grueling at the pump, unless you are loaded with people and gear then you are beating the next 2 SUVs it takes to make the same haul.

I fill up at a half a tank. It doesn't "hurt" as much.

I don't look at it as being so bad. My buddy's 05 Tonka only gets 16 in town & 21 on the road. I'm 6'3" and can barely get in the door. The seats are stiff & there is no room. Even with the extended cab, it will only fit 2 people a a bit of gear. So considering that I can take the wife & kids & dogs and all of our gear, in comfort, it's not that bad. No I'm not wealthy and I do use our small Mercury most of the time, but for trips etc, it's awesome. Just trying to be positive now that the congress has managed to screw us at the pumps......

I just did a 500 mile trip to Lake Erie....13.5 mpg highway (6 people and stuff)....10.5 mpg city (just me) acording to my fill-ups. 2003 V10 at 70,000 miles. The best the computer showed was 13 highway and 11 in town. Can't wait to pull my 7,500lb cargo trailer....thinking 9mpg. The EX felt no different to drive with 6 people in it compaired to just me alone, Mike.
