I'm not a beginner, but I still don't know all the tricks of the trade. My car wouldn't crank at all, just clicked alot, so I started out by buying a new starter. That didn't work, so I bought a new solenoid. I checked all of the fuzes under the dash, put the solenoid in correctly, and all I'm getting is the same clicking noise from the solenoid when I try to start her. Does anyone know what could be the problem. Please don't tell me it's just faulty wiring.

Does the battery have a full charge?
Just out of curiosity, is it your '87 Mustang (that's all that's listed in your registry entries). Any other details would help...i.e., did it just start doing this one morning, has the vehicle been sitting for a long time, etc.?
yeah, its my 87. it was starting fine then it sat for about 3 weeks cause i was gone. when my wife went out to try and start it, the clicking was all that happened. any attempt since then has resulted in only solenoid noise. i bought the new FRPP liteweight starter and a new solenoid and both are installed. i also have a new starter cable but haven't put it in yet. also, the battery has plenty of charge, otherwise the solenoid wouldn't be getting any power, right?

Thomas, do not know if this will help you but - I have a F150 truck that had the same problem - Found that the Solenoid need to be grounded, so make sure your screws are good and tight there, also check all your grounds too (motor, chasis..etc.).
my Torino was doing hat--It was the battery. It would charge up, but did not hold the charge. get a new battery, one with a long life. I got an 84 mo battery and get a new one every three years at no charge.

Thomas, I am curious to what your solution ended up being. Was it the battery?
