The first question you want to ask yourself, is what exactly are your current plans for the Excursion (i.e. Daily Driver / Grocery Getter). The next question you need to ask yourself is, do I plan of towing anything / modifying w/ lift & tires / hitting the camping trail).

Brother Diesel
Thank you friend!
I have a bass boat to tow, a enclosed trailer, plan on getting a camper at some point... AND my my four girls+wife on trips back home to Chicago area....
I currently towing with a 2 door yukon 5.7 5 speed so I know the V8 will tow, also know the 10 will tow better!
Ok... I would opt for the lower milage V10 Eddie Bauer...
One piece of kit I always recommend for folks towing, is an upgraded torque converter. I, as of yet, have nothing to tow, but I too plan on a travel trailer / toy hauler for my Harley. I will choose to stay w/ Gale Banks, and install their torque converter next spring.
One additional note... and this has lead to lots of debates, some heated... but eventually adding after market products to your Ex will pay off over the long run, in terms of fuel savings. I added the Banks Big Hoss Bundle, for the simple reason it was 1 package specifically designed for 6.0L PSD, from a man who is the "Charlie Daniels" of diesel innovation. In my 6.0L PSD case... it added 100 miles to the tank. With the price of diesel being $4.50 ish a gallon, this will eventually pay for it self.
Pick what is best for you, your tastes & finances. Remember, an engine, regardless if its diesel or mogas, requires a large efficient air intake, and a large efficient exhaust system. These two additions, combined with an aftermarket engine tuning device, will save you a little cash, as well as increase HP.
