wp11.jpg New pump on and tightened. Torque on the water pump bolts said 12 to 18 ft/lbs, so I dialed in 15 on the torque wrench. Same goes for the fan bolts you see temporarly screwed into the spindle on the new pump. Take the little hose off before you put the new pump on. Put it on the pump first (leave the lower, longer one off to the side) and slowly move the pump in place. You've got the RTV'd up gasket on the back, so don't bump and distrupt the gasket. I put the top two bolts in beforehand and guded it that way. Secured those and quickly threaded two bottom bolts so the pump was in place. In a star pattern, snug all the bolts with the ratchet, then clamp them down with the torque wrench. New piece of hardware looks good. Now on to the rest of the engine....probably later than sooner....
Start putting the things back together. First remount the two pump bracket. Like I said, be careful, it's bulky, but not that bad. Once that's locked down, put the belt pulley on the water pump spindle. Put the serpentine belt on before you try putting the fan back on and tightening those bolts. With the belt in place, the tension and me holding the belt pulley was enough to clamp down the fan bolts. Once the fan is to your liking, then it's hoses and fan shroud. And 3 bottles of coolant. Let it sit overnight before you fill up the coolant and turn it on. Let the RTV cure. I tested mine this afternoon, about 24 hrs. Let it idle up to normal op temp, no issues. Test drive...nothing. Looks good. They did say that on new water pumps, the first time you run the engine, the weep hole may leak a little for a short while. Mine didn't. We'll see...it's back to the grind tomorrow...hopefully my next weekend will be a different project , not revisiting this one....
