Hello! I'm lowkeyoriginal1, from Clay City, Ky near Red River Gorge.

I was gifted a 1987 Crown Victoria LTD by a family member. This is my 3rd Panther.

They parked it several years ago because the transmission went out. Hopefully, it's the TV cable bracket like Google suggests. I appreciate all knowledge and suggestions. Cheers!

Hi and Welcome. Great car. You will likely get better response over on/at https://www.crownvic.net as best I can tell is besides your post the most recent activity in this Crown Vic section was last year and then no to little replies.

That said here are some things for you.

1) Very likely you will need the AOD (transmission) rebuilt.

2) Ford used to sell a Brass holder with steel spring clip to replace the Nylon/plastic clip that retained/held/mounted the TV cable assembly to the throttle body linkage. I don't know who currently sells a suitable replacement Brass/metal upgrade retainer clip assembly. You should get at least one. Because eventually the plastic clip will fail causing transmission failure (will smoke the clutches and band).

3) For the AOD rebuild, at the very have a TransGo reprogramming/shift improvement kit installed. DON'T WASTE your money on any B&M stuff. IF the shop you take the AOD to for the rebuild tries to push/sell B&M kits/parts, find a different shop.

4) There are several upgrades, improvements and performance mods/upgrades that can be done to the AOD. There's the 'AAA' Servo, adding more clutchs in each clutch pack, Kevlar band(s), improved/upgraded/stronger internal hard parts, stronger/hardened input shaft that will resist shearing/breakage under heavy load/abuse/more power.

5) IF the Original Ford Torque Converter is still in good unbroken condition, have it checked, fully flushed and reuse it.

6) IF you need a new converter, DON'T buy a Dayco.

There are some easyish suspension mods/upgrades that can be done to improve handling IF wanted.

Good luck, enjoy and have fun!
