Basically, that is the case. I have no response from the dash switch or the key in the tailgate. '85 Bronco, full size. What could it be? Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give. |

If it doesn't make any effort or even any noise then I would say it's electrical. It could be the switch that prevents the window from moving when the gate is down. Or it could be a loose/corroded connection in the tailgate or anywheree along the wiring. It could also be a bad motor. It sounds crude but, try banging on the 'gate with your fist on the outside center while using the key to try and activate it. This usually works if its a connection in the tailgate. If you check all the wiring/connections and can't get anything out of it then I would suspect the motor is bad. If that is the case you will have to unbolt the glass from the mechanism in order to get to the motor . Good luck! |

Allways start by checking the fuse. 90% of the time that's what it is.

Same problem here, I've found when I run into this to have a "bigger" guy push in the center of the tailgate while you operate the key... hehe... I'm assuming the connection is bad. |

same thing happened to me, the back windshield is dependand on the connection to the latch on the sides. Just clean the latches, and re-align them so they close around the bolts on the inside of the back, and it will work. If they dont close, the window wont work, its around a 20 min job depending on how bad they are misaligned, mine were like 1/8 of an inch off, so the top would not close around the bolt. Easy fix |

The tail gate door has to be completely closed for the window motor to run. Usually the latch striker plastic roundy things are all chewed up, and the door doesn't think that it is completely closed.
Have someone push on the tailgate while you actuate either of the switches.
I'll bet that it works then.

Sometimes its just the back door isnt closed all the way, make sure you close it real good and then try it. Mine didn't work one time and i panicked and I opened and shut it again and tried and it suddenly worked! I haven't noticed any unusual sounds in the motor. Hasn't done it since as I always check for that and close it pretty hard but oviously don't break glass!! |

I just had the same prob. last week. Took me 2 days to figure it out. Try this. Get to the motor. hook up 12V to the motor. if the motor moves in one direction then revirse the wires and it should go in the other direction then ya know ya motor is good. next check the safty switch that is located on the driver side gate latch. I finaly got my down to the key switch.. It will let the window down but not up so if any1 has a good WORKING key switch for an 86 I will sure be glad to take it also need a good WORKING dash switch for the same.... |
