heres the deal, i just bought a 1996 bronco xlt, and want to put a lift on it
how big of a lift would i need to run 35's
and still be able to go trail riding
how big of a lift would i need to run 38's or 40's and still be able to go trail riding
do i need to regear my front and rear diffs, and if so what gears.
also does anyone know of any places that sell a lifts for my 1996 bronco. i also know that u can run a big tire and it will be fine on the road but on the trail when the suspension flexes and articulates the tires will rub. i will be doing some mild offroading. also what type of suspension is my front, it is not solid axel but not a dual a arm suspension. how hard would it be to lift a suspension like that.
also can i put a locker in the front if the suspension is like that. or will it break the axels because it's not as strong as a straight axel.
sorry if i sound like a noob to offroading and lifted trucks, but i am only 17 and dont know all the stuff about trucks yet, also how much would the lifts probably run( cheapest to most expensive) i dun need the top of the line stuff. also how much would a shop charge to install a lift, also what is the deal wit the breaks and breaklines if i get bigger tires. how much would a shop charge to install a lift, and does anyone know of any shops in jersey or in the jersey area. my truck got a 5.8 and i was wondering what the cubic inch of that engine is i know the 5.0 is a 302. is it a big block or small block, i think it is small block. thanks thanks

OK Jon here are my thoughts.....Lift, check out www.autofab.com I think this is the best way to go without converting to the front straight axle.....I have delt with John E. at autofab for years and he is a standup guy... 4'' to 6'' is all you should need to run 35's to 37's much bigger and you are gonna start f'n shit up...some guys will tell you that 37's are tooooo much already..as for re-gear i would run 4:56 or 4:88 the 88's preferred....lockers? I would run a detroit in the rear and some kind of limmited slip or "soft" locker in the front...as far as shops you got me?? I like to do my own work and i feel you should do the same, it gives you the chance to learn something...and also know how to fix it if it breaks out on the trail....5.8 = 351 cu" ( it's ok to let a GOOD shop do gear and diff set ups...ask around..) but lift and other stuff you can do yourself.....Hope this helps.....good luck Scott N Seattle... ....P.S. im more familiar with blazers than broncos but id say to fit 35s you would need at least a 4" lift it depends on the type of offroading that you do as far as re-gearing it depends on what you have now
as far as a place just about any offroad shop or mail order can get you a lift
your front axle is a ttb front end there not hard to lift
i would not put a locker up front untill you can beef up your front end and aquire some off roading skills its real easy to start breaking stubshafts with a front locker if your playing on the rocks

Ok here goes
You need a 6" suspension lift to run 35's unless you do some fender trimming. I have been there and if you do any serious wheeling, they will rub with a 4" lift.
Personally I would go 4" and 33's, good for on and off road.
You would really need to regear with 35's to stay in overdrive on the highway. You probably have 3.55's now so I would go with 4.35's with 35's. You don't have too but you will overshift the tranny if you don't.
I went with the ProComp lift form 4wheel parts when they had one of their sales. I am very happy with it and I have beat the living snot out of my '92 Bronco. No breaks and a great highway ride. A bit soft when you get off of the ground though.
You will need new brake lines with a 6" but not a 4". Brakes do suffer due to tire inertia but it is still ok with 35's.
A lift will run you from about $600 t0 $1200 but the ProComp is sitting around $700 now I think. Probably about $500 install for a shop.
