The black coating is used to improve the seal between the throttle body bore and blade, this improves idle quality.

After!

I used candy apple red (transparent) paint on the backside with the shiny chrome behind to achieve the same pearlescent look as the stock red emblem.

It didn't come out anywhere perfect, but it's still MUCH better looking than before.
