Ford 8.8 with 3.55's. Needs a full rebuild AND gear change. The list includes all new bearings and seals, all new brake parts, ring and pionion swap. I am considering a disc break conversion, but only if I can keep my factory wheels.

The spring perches are crusty and very rusted. They might have to be removed to be rewelded and repaired.

I wire wheeled the welds on the spring perches to see if they were bad. They look godd, but they still might need to be repaired or removed.

After running 2 cans of break cleaner through the differential to clean all the crud out, I wrapped it with about 10 layed of shipping grade plastic wrap to seal it from the element for now. It wont be able to go in the garage for a week or so.

Didn't bother making sure this was perfectly sealed as it is already rusted and will be FULLY rebuilt. Plus it is still sealed up and full of gear oil.

I was questioning why the axle felt like it had no pre-load. I was even more shocked when I was able to back the pinion nut out with a 12" ratchet and one my hand holding the flange. I am pretty sure thius is NOT what a "used" crush sleeve looks like.

There is some rust on the ring gear, carrier and the tone ring. There was definately water in this thing when it was sitting.
