I found a split on one of me Firebombs yesterday...I need to replace them. I was wondering which tires you guys hae had good luck with? Remember this is mostly for on road and a little snow, so although the Super Swampers are cool, they will not work for me. Also do you go with an "E" or "D" load rating? I will be pulling a 28' trailer.
Thanks for the input. |

Wheels, I have Cooper Discoverer AT tires on my X and love them. I went one size bigger than stock (285 vs 265) just for looks. Mine are D rated, although you can get the Discs in stock size in E. The actual weight rating is very close, but you can air up the 265 tires to 80 lbs. The 285s can only go up to 65 lbs. The Discs are a nice balance between all terrain and highway.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input. | Wheels,
I had the same problem last summer. Outside of the splitting, I have really liked the long wear on these tires. I still have one original tire left with over 71,000 miles on it. I had two of them replaced at a reduced rate because the local Firestone dealer/shop gave me 30% off of a new pair of tires claiming that my "split" tires had 30% life left on them. I left a happy camper and haven't had a problem since.
My next choice for my X will probably be BFG All Terrains, however I do not pull a trailer like you. I have had great success with these tires but I know for sure they will not get 70,000 miles like the Firestones do.

Thanks for the input...I have decided to put 2 new Steeltex for this round ...$$$$ based decision . RS-TX, I was going to go with the Coopers (Good tire, good looking and good $) Bad Timing for a whole new SET...you know $. Any other time I would have put a set on. I liked the look and the tread pattern. Plus they were over $100 less than the next closest set. By the way...Did they change your gas mileage much? Do you tow with them? Are they noisy? I haven't bought the others yet, and am still wondering. E. Long, If it wasn't driven mostly by my wife (Road Noise), and I could afford it I would definately look at the BF's. They look GOOD!!! Thanks.

Thanks for the input. | I would, without question put on the Load range "E" I put on the Michelin LTX M/S LR "E"(and love them) and the difference is this......265/75R16 E (10 ply) 3415lbs. @ 80psi
The D (8 ply) is rated at 2335 [email protected] 80 psi. Hope this helps-Brad

Always thought a D rated tire is 3014lbs. @ 65 psi. | Correction!! That should have been @65# NOT 80# Sorry I should have noted that that info came from a tire companys web site that sells the Michelins and that rating is on the Michelin LTX M/S. I am not sure what the other D rated tires are rated at. One would think that they would be the same or close. Thanks for setting me straight... |

Ahh, another good thread. My personal preference is BFG Mud Terrains. Tall and thin-ish. Yes is the rain they can be challenging, but mostly on F250 PUs with nothing in the back. For snow / ice-slush and field-mud I have found nothing better. Ever.
That being said the OEM fire-pops ( ) seem to be pretty good tires and my local Big-O guys (who don't sell them) say these OEM are pretty darn good. MB |
