I got a really good deal on a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller and an adapter for my X. I was looking under the dash but was unable to immediately see where the adapter plugged in. Can anyone give me any insight (for the adapter location, that is)?

Pull off the panel, it is a grey (i think) pigtail stub on the far right hand side....far right hand side, in fact it was WAY in back IIRC... Hope this helps.

Far right hand side after I pull the panel... so you mean it's more near the hump? Closer to the firewall? With an alarm system, an A/V system and an XM system, I have a whole mess of wires under the dash.

Forgive my ignorance but what is an IIRC?

It is tucked up in there a little ways ... almost directly behind the depression in the dashboard immediately to the right of the removeable access panel. And that depressed area is where I mounted my Prodigy ... best brake controller I've ever had.

Let me add a big word of caution here. I found that the adapter plug I bought ... the part that gets spliced / soldered / heat-shrunk to the brake controller wiring was mis-identified in regards to wire color. If I blindly followed their directions, I probably would've fried the Prodigy unit. So, before you finalize any connections, make certain you've tested the functionality of each wire ... and this is when a multi-tester / Ohmmeter comes in handy.

Another mis-labeled document I found was in the FORD Factory Service manual for the 7-pin trailer receptacle. The manual had most of the wires mis-identified. After I obtained a generic copy of how they're supposed to be wired, I found the X was wired correctly, but the OEM manual was wrong.

Thanks for the info. Where did you get your adapter, BTW?

I noticed the wiring diagram was actually embossed/ etched on the receptical itself. That how I was able to wire my trailer, actually.

Yes it is near the hump, back behind the wiring.

The place at which I bought my trailer wrote down which wire went to which so that I did not screw anything up.

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly....

Kevin Curry asked, "Where did you get your adapter, BTW?"

It was a Hidden Hitch part I ordered through J.CWhitney ... about $11 or $12.

I've towed many miles already with that Prodigy brake controller. If you've ever had any others, you will most definitely appreciate this one. Good stuff!

I bought my adapter from RJay's. Hopefully not the same brand as the one you bought from JCW.

Anyway, my last controller was made by Draw-tight or something like that. It was fancy but I've heard praise about the Prodigy like none other. In case anyone is interested, I think there may still be some on Amazon.com auction for unnder $80.

I would like to sound off and praise this Prodigy. I have had the Voyager for some time and also had to dial it in all the time. It worked best on the freeway at this setting and in town and another. Since moving to the Prodigy I set it once and have not had one issue since. It is silky smooth in all types of braking situations. In the brake controller world I think you really do get what you pay for. Knowing what I know now ....I would have paid more....

I got my form CampingWorld. I think $135 delievered!
