Don | I just have one along in case I end up somewhere over the weekend and it gets cold. I guess my idea of being gone for the weekend is having to travel to North Dakota to visit the in-laws. For some reason it is illegal for my wife to plan those trips any further than 0 days in advance, so it's always a haste to get packed and leave ASAP and an extension cord for the block warmer is just not something on the usual list of things to pack.
Bottom line -- yeah, just in case the X sits for too long on a really cold day. Burning up a starter can prove to be an expensive mistake in these things. I have yet to do it in my X, but I did it in my '97 F250 diesel-powered pickup. $500 and a day later I was back on the road. Had I just plugged the damn thing in that evening I wouldn't have had an issue starting up the next morning.
