Roger - Glad you like them. You'll appreciate them more once they're installed.
Speaking of which, I did an installation today on an '04 diesel (pretty truck), and found a few items have changed down below. I found what seems to be the THIRD variation of metal bump-stop sandwiched within its leaf spring stack (this one had to be trimmed for the GEN-II radius-rod kit), and the plate on the passenger-side lower shock absorber mount is gone. This '04 also had the factory rear anti-swaybar with drop-links attached on the outboard side of the frame rails, and the mounts on the axle were right next to the pumpkin. The Hellwig anti-swaybar positions the axle mounts further outboard (at the shock absorber mounts) which I believe provides more leverage for the bar to function.
Oh, and Roger? This fellow with the '04 said he tows an Airstream, too.
Added 10/24/04 - I forgot to mention that the leaf springs & OEM traction bars were different than others I've seen on earlier models. The traction bar was longer, and its snubber made contact with the top leaf directly below the front spring hanger bolt. This also meant the second leaf was shorter than older models. The 2nd leaf on older models extends right up to the hanger ... almost as long as the 1st leaf ... and this one was about 3 inches shy of it. |

The only thing I had to trim was the factory traction bars. |

Ken,
I gotta tell ya, I was a believer that your Rods would take care of the handling issue, but I wasn’t sold on the possible improvement in ride quality. Looking at your plans & looking at the suspension, I just couldn’t see it. Now that they are installed, Holy UNBELIEVABLE Cow! Man, the X rides way better. Your product gets an A+ for quality too! Your rods were built very well! You obviously took your time to manufacture a VERY high quality product. Ford should take notice at your welds alone. Two thumbs UP! On regular 2 lane roads, the improvement in ride is better. On the expressway is where these babies really shine! The expansion joints & overpasses (bridges) don’t buck the X anymore. The rear suspension actually seems to take the bumps & dips in the road better than the front, I can’t believe it! After owning this thing since new, I am so much happier with the X. Just North of the Mackinaw Bridge, (the expressway is buckled sooo bad) you used to have to hold the steering wheel with both hands. Not now, this section of road is where my wife noticed and praised “LandYot”. The fact my wife actually noticed is HUGE! For anyone who owns an X, just buy em, they are worth every penny!
Thanks a bunch!
Dennis

DENNIS -- I'm glad to hear you like the improvement. Thank you for your very kind testimonial. EVERYONE ELSE -- I've received some mail asking about when I intend to get back into production. I am filing those e-mails in a folder on my PC so I can send a reply to each and every one when I'm back up and running. I suspect that time will be around, or soon after Christmas. If you want to be included in this "to be contacted later"-list, you must send me an e-mail (click on my username to access this website's e-mail router) so I can "save" it for later. It would be much easier that way because all I'll have to do later is copy / paste a common notice into each reply from that folder on my PC.
Thanks in advance, Ken E.
PS - Just incase y'all get curious, I added a photo of me and "Mrs. Land Yot" in front of the LAND YOT in my online album here. |

Landyot- forgive my ignorance but explain in detail to those of us who don't know what your radius rods are and how they function; and what is the benefit. They sound interesting and if you have an application for a 2WD 03 X, I would probably get some from you.
EDUCATE ME
Thanks and also I appreciate your response about my tire balancing issues (Probably driveshaft angle) Ford is going to check it out on Thursday.

Guru -- Forgiveness is not required. The yearn to learn is a good thing.
In order to avoid copying the lengthy text here, please allow me to refer you to the first page of this thread (this is the 15th page). You can also send me an e-mail, and I'll reply with an even more descriptive version that includes illustrations and installation instructions.
"Cobra427" wrote a testimonial on page 4 of this thread about the radius-rods installed on his 2WD model. |

Landyot,
Ok, now I feel enlightened and am ready to pull the trigger on getting a set of these. I go to VA beach frequently to see my Dad and will be making a trip down sometime late November or early December to trailer down his old 69 Benz 280SL to the new house. Let me know how we could work out meeting to pick up the rods or better yet, will you install too? (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

Uhhh ... Now let me refer you to the next to last post on page 14. I'm not making any more kits until Christmas or sometime afterwards. I do perform installations at my place, and all of that info is covered in an "info-pack" I e-mail to those who send me an e-mail (I cannot send it via this website's e-mail router).
PS - You must make a stop at the Bass Pro shop here. |
