| Quote: | | So Ken, I should be planning on using Air Lift bags to be compatible with my Gen III kit? | That's correct. All brands of air-bags I've seen on 4WD Excursions rest on the metal bump-stops protruding inboard from the spring packs. However, while the Ride-Rites rest on those bump-stops, they also clamp all the way down and around the axle tube, and that's what causes a foul with GEN-II, -III and -IV style of radius-rods. If you must have Ride-Rites, then you're limited to the GEN-I style radius-rods. Furthermore, if you must have Ride-Rites, and your X is an "early-2000" model with the driver side rear brake caliper mounted on the forward side of the rear axle, then no radius-rod kits will fit.
With 2WD models, the air-bags rest directly on the axle-tube, and that means only the GEN-I radius-rods can work in conjunction with the bags.
So, in light of all that, the GEN-I kits will not be discontinued at the end of this batch ... and I have several on hand, boxed, and ready to ship.
Good question. Thanks for asking! |

Got my Gen I Radius Rods a couple of weeks ago and installed them in a little less than three hours. I took my 04 X out on a road here in Vegas that I would not normally go over 55 and would still have white knuckles trying to keep the X on the road around the turns and had it up to 75 with one hand on the wheel and still enjoying the ride.
The next test was the real reason that I bought them. Towing by 11,000 lbs trailer was not fun when you are really having to drive the X so that the trailer would stay in a straight path. I very rarely was every able to do the speed limit when traveling (makes for a long trip when pulling it 1600 miles to North Dakota and and then back again). I took it up to Lake Tahoe over the July 4th week and it was great. About 500 miles each way. I was able to do the 70 mph speed limit almost all of the way there. On the way back I hit the summer winds of the desert and rain most of the way and was still able to do 65 most of the way home.
I understand that I will probably never get all of the sway out of the X when pulling the trailer but I have achived getting rid of 85-90 % of it and it makes for a much more enjoyable trip. I have freinds in the Fire Department here in Vegas and the FD has a couple of X's in the fleet. They have always said that the X is bad when having to run code, so I let them test mine after the install. They have had Ford out a couple of time with the end result being that they could not find anything wrong. The Cheifs are now in the process of trying to figure out how to get around the system and get a couple of orders to install on the department vehicles.
Ken, Good Job on this product as it does everything that you said it would. The instructions where easy to follow (and it was nice having them before I had to decide on the purchase). I highly recommend these to anyone with an X. |

Ron - Thank you for your kind words. I LOVE these "success stories."
Everyone else - At this moment, there are only 3 GEN-IV kits available from this batch, and I have several GEN-I & GEN-III kits that're boxed & ready to ship. |

Since I got the RR installed, I have no wander. Of course the trailer still gets hit from the gusts but it is much firmer than before.

Thanks again! | Earlier on when I suggested the sway bar and rods, the wife said ok, After installing the sway bar I ran it for a bit before installing the rods. The wife I was installing the sway bar. She sat in it the other day and said that we didn't need the radius rods since the truck is so stable with the sway bar. Then I told her that it was that stable BECAUSE it had the RR in it. All she could say was "Oh, I didn't know". The sway bar did make some difference but not enough that she could take note of it. When I installed the RR, she thought the sway bar made all the difference but little did she know.

When a wife notices a ride improvement, I think that's a big deal. Glad to hear it! I hope the inactivity on this board is due to everyone being out of doors, enjoying the summer with their Excursions. Things have slowed down a lot here ... and with the radius-rods. I've got several sets boxed and ready to go ... and I've never had an inventory of these things before. Has there been a new invention offered that makes the radius-rods obsolete? If so, cue me in. At this rate, I'm starting to think this might be my last batch. |
