I installed the GEN-II kit on my 2000 X Diesel in early 2005. Had to cut the lower portion of bump stop to clear the radius rod axle clamp bolts. I was careful & cut the bare minimum necessary to clear & get a wrench on it. Last week I installed an Air Lift Air Spring super duty package. It required drilling a hole thru the bump stop in order to install the lower plate of each air spring. Since I had cut away a portion of the bump stop, I was concerned about removing any more metal that might compromise its support strength. Well, I did it anyway. It's a nice, clean installation that with 5-10 psi inflation gives additional axle stabilization & seems to smooth out the ride. It does not affect ride height at that inflation. If run the pressure up to 60psi (100psi is max) it adds approximately one inch, but the ride is unbearable. Should I be concerned about towing heavy trailer/camper because of cutaways to the bump stops? If sufficiently weakened, will the bump stop bend or is it brittle enough to just break without warning?

I also do not know who you are from your username alone (it was never relayed to me per my records), therefore, I cannot determine from my records if your 2000 X is an early-2000 or late-2000 model. If it's a late-2000, your best bet would've been to have gotten the GEN-I kit ... and if it's an early-2000, the newer GEN-III axle-clamps will clear your bump-stops with no notching required. However, all of that is moot now. I do not recommend notching the bump-stops that protrude inboard from the spring-packs if you're going to use air-bags. Send me an e-mail, and I will respond with an option you may or may not want to consider. Thanks, LANDYOT |

"your 2000 X is an early-2000 or late-2000 model." I bought my 2000 used. How do I "easily" determine it's manufacture date?

It's where the driver-side rear brake caliper is mounted. The early-2000 had the driver side brake caliper mounted on the forward side of the rear axle, and the passenger-side caliper mounted on the rear side of the rear axle. Late-2000 and all other model year Excursions have both rear brake calipers mounted on rear side of the rear axle.

I just installed a set of GEN-III radius rods on my late 2000 model Ex. The directions were concise and very easy to follow. The rods are very well constructed and the package contained all of the parts necessary to complete the installation. Ken was a pleasure to deal with and I actually received the rods the day after I bought them. The impact the rods made to the ride difference is significant and immediate. Without much seat time, I could feel the difference in the truck right away - it seems to settle (best way I can describe it) right after a road bump and the rear-end reverberation is gone. Great product! |

ARGGHH! Every time I get the cash up to get the rods, I've missed the manufacturing date. Oh, well. Got the cash now, but the GEN IV are sold out until July. Maybe I'll just put the money in a jar this time so it will be available. |

Got it. I will send you an e-mail when the next batch of GEN-IV kits are nearing completion. |

Happy New Year y'all! (What was wrong with the old year?)
Sometime this afternoon, I will finally finish the 2006 batch of radius-rods. I started on them on 1/19/06, and I'm boxing up the last few kits today ... have logged several hundred hours on these things. BTW, I did take a 3-month break from building them during the summer months, so it has not been a year-round effort.
I'm going to take a very long break from building them in 2007 so I can get around to overhauling a Northstar engine with 4-speed auto-tranny, and shoehorn it into the back of my GT40 kit car. Plus, Mrs. Landyot's list of honey-do's has gotten too large to ignore anymore.
I've got several GEN-I and GEN-III kits available. At this moment, I don't anticipate starting another batch until late this year, if not until early-2008.
Can you believe this one thread has been running for more than three years now?
Have a grand 2007! |
