I am looking to change the exhaust system on my 00' excursion with 64k on it. There are many different companies and prices and I am not sure how much of a difference there is between systems if any. I know the largest difference is stainless or aluminized, and I am not going stainless since I live in Tucson and its kinda dry here. So any info or experiences with the different systems that anybody has had would be helpful.
Also here is a list of the mods I have recently purchased or will purchase in the next week or two:
Tymar Intake
DI 4 position chip
Doestch shocks and steering stabilizer
Soon:
Hellwig Antisway bar
Polyurathane bushings from Energy Suspentions
Also need to talk to Landyot about his rear suspension setup
next year:
New bigger tires, rims
Suspention lift
And on and on...
And just think, I was happy with my truck until I started reading these forums!! |

Do some research. I went with the 4 inch down pipe and its too big for a stock turbo and rear housing. Its good on the top end, but low end suffers as does throttle response. Banks makes a 3 1/2 downpipe that I feel is the best and you might as well consider their exhaust as well. I definitely went with the cheapest being the Dynomax full system for like under $500 shipped to my door for a full 4" system, but like I said, the 4" down pipe is too much. On top of that the Dynomax was on my F350 and I had fitment issues when I transfered it over. The X is not the same as the F series because of the tank and its length is unique, longer then a shortbed and shorter then a shortbed extended cab.

Hey thanks for the tip on the 3 1/2" downpipe, I have been looking around and I haven't heard that before. I found a place, I think it was bigdieselexhaust.com or something like that, that priced a full system with the 3 1/2 instead of four and I did not buy it because I thought I wanted the 4" downpipe. It was the system they said they make specifically for the excursion. The price including a 5" chrome tip was $413 including shipping. I am going to have to see if I can find that again.
Thanks again!! |

I have a 2002 X, 2 wheel drive. Please tell me how much the Doestch shocks and steering stabilizer, helped your ride and streering. I am assuming you have a 4x4, with the steering stabilizer, but I am wondering if the steering stabilizer will help my steering control on a 2 wheel drive. Every time I hit a bump the steering wheel and steering wobble pretty badly, and I get a tremendous amount of bump steer. A little scary if you are really moving!!
Can you tell a noticible ride improvement with the Doestch shocks or are they primarily an 4x4 offroad improvement? |

I will let you know when I get them, and get them on. I bought them last week, I think Wednesday, so they should be here any day. I can't wait, I still have the original shocks after 64k and the wife and I joke its like being on a bull ride going down dirt road thats full of lots of bumps and dips. I did not buy them to do anything close to serious offroad, just day to day usage takes me off road once in awhile. I got the steering stabilizer for two reasons: to hopefully improve the front ends performance, and two, I was going to get the bilsteins when I found out I could get 4 doestch shocks and the stabilizer delivered($199) for about $60 less than the bilsteins($25 without the stabilizer. There was an article in a 4x4 mag that rated the doestch just barely above the bilsteins, that sealed my choice.
I will have them in within 24hrs of delivery, and I will let you know what I think. |

Steven,
I am also curious to learn how you like the Doestch shocks and the steering stabilizer. Will you give us a full report as well as a heads up as to where you bought them?
Best,

Steven,
Bully Dog is where I got my exhaust sytem. I have the 4" turbo down and see no low end loss in my 03' "Ex" The main reason is for the lower EGT's with the chip.
BTW- I didn't waist my money on the antisway bar. Instead I spent the money on some beefy 315X70R17 BF Goodrich tires. I run them at 55-65 lbs and stablity is much better and the ride is big time softer from the OE 265's.
Also if you lift the truck the antisway is a hunk of nothing as the bar is for a stock truck... Don
