my 00 x is badly in need of some shocks. i was leaning toward edelbrock but heard they have a tendancy to be squishy especially with a load - and an x is ALWAYS a load!
what are the pros/cons you've experienced? rancho? bilstien? edelbrock?

Kevin is right, this is a subject of much debate. I like my Bilsteins, but I would probably be happy with Ranchos or Monroes or ..... It is kind of like Kool-Aid: different flavors, but all good.
The best thing to do would be to buy a set of each of the major brands, run them for say three months and then report back to us.

anyone have any experience with the edelbrock shocks? on the link above, only one person had used the edelbrock shocks with no opinion on how they performed.
what shock controls the "bucking" the best?

Can't tell you much about the Edelbrocks except that they are OK shocks. My choice would be either the Bilstein or the Rancho RS9000X. The Ranchos are 9-way adjustable.

Has anyone tried the Rancho RSX shocks on their X? I just not sure that the extra $30 a shock for the adjustable 9000's are worth the investment for the driving that I do.

I put on Edelbrocks at 7K miles now have 72K. Combined with U code front springs and pro-comp steering damper the ride is still tight after these miles. Not sure how long till they wear out. The way a truck rides is hard to describe but I love the way it handles and rides. I'm one picky SOB when it comes to how a car or truck handles. Another factor is tires. I have BFG KO's and they made a difference in ride especially on dirt and gravel roads. They have 55K miles on them and the compound is a little harder now, so another set is due. I don't think you can just replace the shocks and expect miracles, but a few other changes really help. First one on the list would be springs, more so for 2002 and prior Excursions. The 2003 and up seem to be better. |

Ron - What do you mean by "bucking?" Are you talking about the reverberation you feel when driving over minor bumps, potholes, etc.? You hit a bump, and the vibration seems to last a second or two ... when what you want is to hit a bump and be done with it right away.
