Hi Folks,
I recently purchased an '01 Excursion Limited with the PSD. I had been shopping for one for about 8 months and finally found a good fit on milage, value and price. We have four kids under 8 so I felt like I need to 'super-size' it, and so far I'm glad I did.
As mentioned in the subject line, this is not my first forey into diesel engines. My first experience was indeed painful! I had a 1/2 ton '96 Silverado with the 6.5 TD. I loved the concept of a lighter truck with the 'heavier' engine (I wonder why other MFGers don't do this, also)...BUT...I have owned many vehicles including tractors and airplanes, and I can honestly say this Chevy engine was the worst peice of crap I have EVER owned...bar none.
After a long year of poor service, I managed to sell the truck. And guess what...Chevy lost a long-standing customer. I feel VERY strongly about consumer rights issues, and for an automobile company to manufacture a product that is as flawed as that engine - well...they DESERVE to loose customers, and market share, and I hope they do. I have been told the DMAX was great in comparison. But compared to the 6.5 TD, my 3 year-old's rubberband powered airplane is advanced.
ANYWAY, thanks for the opportunity to blow off some steam - and you seasoned veterans of the PSD - PLEASE PLEASE reassure me that I've made the right decision in my second attempt at diesel power!
Regards,
Happy Holidays
'01 X Limited w/PSD - STOCK all the way..and plan to stay that way. Pockets turned inside out with 4 kids! |

| Welcome and congrats on your new purchase!
It's a darn shame that our proud military is powered by that hunk of crap, huh? I used to run a 6.2L. No real problems but it had a mechanical injector pump. That 6.5 was plagued with computer, electrical and injector pump issues for many years. Will say that when they run right, they are a good engine for a light duty truck.
