I almost forgot...NOS

I was watching a show on TV, I can't remembe the name for the life of me...and they had put a bully dog system on a duramax (we all know it needed it), and i thought that was pretty neat. Never really actually considered a NOS system on a diesel.

I've always been against NOS systems myself...but oh well. It was just a thought!

have fun!

NOS? Really? Sure it wasn't propane?

Birdman,

Sounds like you got your STUFF ready.

Two items to be aware one you should already know of. The X is extreemly top heavy going more than 2" in height will have the tendancy to roll over on the slightest turns.

The other, The Grapplers are rated LT315/75 R16 8.0-(8.5)-10.0 width [email protected] lbs
This tire has been known to "BLOW" off the OE 7" rim.

I have mounted the BFG's 315x70R17's on the an American Racing rim The whole package tires and wheels were less than all four Grapplers alone.

Take a look Outlaw rims $240 new. And you can see them on the X below.

Bryant,

If you haven't done so already, check out thedieselstop.com , you will find more info than you care read on the topics you mention.

Edge (Donahoe Racing) makes a 2" mini spring pack that would probably work well for you.

The most popular exhaust systems seem to be Banks, DPP, and Magnaflow (heard they were having some problems with their Excursion system though?).

Check out N-Fab step bars, they look more rugged in my opinion.

Our BFG's have been great.....also have heard good things about Bridgestone's all-terrain tire (can't remember the name).

Hope this helps,

Hitch

Tom,

What happened to your X. Looks like an 18 wheeler hit you broad side? Was it totaled?

Don,

my wife lost control on an icy road, doing about 40, and slid into the end of a big wooden fence. luckily, my 3 year old daughter who usually sits right where the impact was, was not in the truck.

no, it was not totaled. something like $16,000 to repair (thank you for insurance)....took about 2 months before we got it back. if you look in the channels on the roof, you can see that the sheet metal is a little wavy or bumpy....other than that she is as good as new.

how did you fit those 315's without any lift?

Thanks,

Tom

They fit fine @ 55lbs inflation under that they just rub under hard turn in brakeing. The profile is a 70 not 75 like OE so I was able to fit just right in.

I saw the child seat in the picture, thank the lord she wasen't in the truck at the time. I hope your wife was ok... Here in NJ any roof intrusion is a manditory total.

birdman...thank you for the info. But don is right...the x is top heavy. Kevin...I'm pretty sure it was NOS they were runnning. But I could have been wrong. If youhave an episode in mind...what color was the truck? (red and black perhaps? 4x4? 3/4 ton? upgraded tranny?)

No, actually, you're probably right. I don't claim to know everything but that was first time I'd heard of a diesel using NOS. Ironically, later that day I was reading this: http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/04january/naias/ford_bronco/index.asp and lo and behold, IT USES NOS!

I had always thought that propane was to diesel what NOS is to gassers.

hey there...

usually what I have found is that diesel boys use propane instead of nos...for whatever reason...easier on the motor?

Good evening guy's.

Nos- used sparingly as a "shot" of power when needed. Not to be used on a regular basis as it will blow up your motor and it's expensive to refill the tank.

Propane- on the other hand can be used regularly as a catalyst to diesel. As we all should know diesel is at best 78-82% efficient, propane adds the ability to burn 96% of that fuel. It's not as harsh on the engine. Propane burns as slow as diesel although gives you the added boost if needed under a heavy foot due to the added effeciency and not as pricey at the pump. Oh ya, cleaner burning with propane as well.

I have seen 20-40% hp/torque gains at the dyno over a long term using propane. NOS was at times 30-50% hp gain over very short time frame say 15 seconds.

If NOS is in your mind make sure the mods are done as it will superheat the turbo and could blow the stock torque converter/tranny.
