Don't think you're going to see those kinds of gains. Sorry. You will see some though...except you'll probably want to hear that new motor sound and have your foot in it a little more which will negate any gains you just made.

As far as the K&N...I try to avoid those now..used to have one though. They flow well but unless the engine can take advantage of it (cams, heads etc) then they're useless. Besides, they flow way too much dirt as well. Seen numerous oil sample analyses (is that how you spell the plural of analysis? ) which compared a stock air filter to K&N. The K&N had a LOT more silicon in the oil due to poor filtration.

You mean there were fake boobs in the oil after using a K&N??

Wow... Not sure what the issue is with your low numbers. I am getting a consistent 10.5MPG in the city and I've done as well 15.5MPG on the highway. I have an '01 V10'r. Heck! I got 10.5MPG towing about 7000#'s! I don't stomp on the accelerator much at all, though

Kevin,
Are you using the on board computer or real numbers? If I go by the on board my numbers are significantly better.

Can't forget gears people! I'm running 4.30LS stock and get average city/hwy of 11 or so which means probably around 12-13 hwy and 9-10 city. If someone is running the 3.73 they'll be getting much better.

And ya can't forget ol' leadfoot. The wife gets better mileage than I do cause of that!

From what I have heard and seen, if you can keep it below 2000RPM you'll be in the "sweet spot" for mileage. For me, I'll just have to wait til I get the 37's on her for that to happen.

Mikie

Weatherlite,
I'm sorry if this is posted here, but how do I check what gears we have? We don't put our foot into it so I just can't figure out why everyone else is pulling such much better mpg's.

This may all be irrelevant because we try to talk to any diesel owners we see and last night we saw what we thought was the QE2. It wound up being up being an X with a plow and he told my wife he got 15 to 16 towing a trailer. I think we're going to be in the market for a diesel soon. It's her truck so I'm just waiting for the word.

Thanks again to everyone for the info...

Easiest way is read my FAQ.

That's silicon not siliconE. You've been at those Hawaiian beaches too much lately!! Boobs.
*sigh* Wouldn't mind seeing some of that myself though.

Ok, now on to seriousness. Just in case some of you don't know, silicon in your oil is just an indicator of how much dirt gets past your air filter.

And Monsta, that's a good FAQ. Don't think I've seen it before. Should be required reading for all FordExcursions.com newbies!

I do both, actually. I reset the computer all the time and have found out it helps the accuracy a lot. I also calculate the miles/gallons. The 2 don't vary a whole lot, I have found.

Oh...I thought it was referred to as SILICA.

Silicon being the stuff that computer chips are made out of (I guess ) and, you are right, SILICONE for those fake boobies and gaskets...

Never-the-less, (I was just messin' with ya). K&Ns, and the like, DO allow more sand (hehehe) in the engine unless you never clean them...then they flow like a paper filter or worse.

You know... with all the pressure on manufactureres to increase CAFE standards donchya think that if these filters gave MPG improvements that they'd be on the cars and trucks? Same with the Tornado, PTFE oil crap etc. etc.

MPG - V10 - I am getting 10-11City and 12-13 HWY with 4.3 gears and 35" tires. I think I can bump it 1 MPG when I go to skinnier tires when the current ones wear out. Otherwise that's pretty much it. Not bad for a 7,500# plus vehicle. I recall getting less than 8 MPG on some early 70's big block engines. Gas was 32 cents a gallon then though.

Oh monsta, isn't Hawaii a no gun state where being politically correct means you have your Kona coffee in the sun, snub your nose daily at all the Japanese tourists, have SPAM for lunch, work four hours and then go home for a nice poi dinner in paradise.

In your world you may be able to simply resolve any form of threat by hitting your CTRL, ALT, Delete keys over and over until they are gone. Bad cookies! Bad cookies! There are however, those of us who go about our business in the real word where physical threat or insult is dealt with swiftly as required. A creed of honor that unfortunately escapes many in today's society.

I'm not going to take a bunch of crap off a pompous young, ex football player - how many times did he mention that - college professor accustomed to stalking about and intimidating 18 year old freshmen in speech 101 intro classes, especially AFTER I gave the guy the ALL the information he needed to solve his problems to start with and he ignored it.

If you guys weren't such control freaks "over there" I would have deleted all my posts from the thread the second it got sideways, but no that's the domain of the Ford FTE gods. Have a nice day.

Get an effin' life Spartan.

If you want to talk then email me at [email protected] Don't use someone else's bandwidth to voice your opinions about my actions on another site.

You violated the guidelines. I enforced it (which is quite rare for me.) and it was the first thread that I ever closed in that forum in the past 3 years.
