Just curious, I have a frie...I know a guy(He is sort of an a**) who recently bought the 6.0, he said it is great, he boasted about his being better than the 7.3 for EVERYTHING, but on here I have heard mention about not getting the 6.0 and was just wondering why? What are the problems with them? |

This guy you know sure likes to run his mouth doesn't he? If you plan on buying a 6.0L, order or wait for an 04. A lot of corrections and improvements have been made to the engine for that year. I will admit the 6.0 is better than the 7.3 in certain aspects. But not overall, he and the rest of the world can say whatever they want. The 7.3 Liter Powerstroke is a tried, true, and proven engine. I stand by my statement.

I second that. Go with an '04 6.0L. I'm always skeptical with first-year models when there are major changes. Can't go wrong with the 7.3L but if it were me, I would wait another couple of weeks or so for the new 04's to come out with the 6.0L. I drove an '03 6.0L and man, what a difference compared to my 7.3L. Loved the power and the quietness of the new 6.0L.

I have about 1000 mi on my 04 6.0. I hoped they had solved any problems by now, and I have not had any. The engine noise is still greater than I expected, even after driving an 03 6.0 |

I have just over 3000 miles on my '04 6.0L. The only problems I have are the drone at 1800 rpms, which I hear is common, and sometimes the cold idle is pretty rough. Once it warms up, it is smooth. One other thing: Sometimes, while coasting downhill around 40 mph, the engine sounds almost like it wants to stall. It sounds like it is sputtering, but I don't feel any surging. Not having driven a diesel in almost 20 years, it is hard for me to determine what is "normal" and what isn't.
All in all, I am very pleased with my X. |

The latest reflashes and the '04's wil have a change in that the "split shot" or pilot injection is gone! So, with that the idle is supposed to be a little louder. Most guys getting the new "fix all" reflash say the sound at idle is noticably louder but not bad. Most of the other issue are either gone, or greatly improved.

Has your's gotten the latest flash? The refreshed '04 PSD isn't out yet (unless it's starting to hit now) but the reflash is supposedly taking care of the issues you mention. There was also another issue, womthing to do with a wire harnes that appearently got all 6.0's "held" until inspected.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll ask my service manager to call me when the new reflash hits. I now have over 4200 miles, and still can't get over how much I like this truck. Can anyone give me the Rancho RS9000 part number for the Excursion? The shop that I went to in order to buy them said that Rancho claims there is no RS9000 available for it, yet I think others here have them. |
