Based on a tire calculator response (pretty neat, graphical tire HEIGHT calculator can be found at http://www.secret-secret.com/turbo/DIY/tirecalc/turbotire.html and one to figure WIDTH can be found at http://www.sgmotorsports.com/tiresize.htm), it appears the 285's and 305's are nearly identical in height. With that being the case, can a 285 and/or a 305 be run on a stock ride height 2000 4x4 X? I'd like to install beefier tires, but I want to know what any of your experiences have been with rubbing, scraping, etc.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue.

My 285s rubbed the mud flaps when turning. I removed the flaps and trimmed them a little here and there. It is almost impossible to tell they are not the same as new if you don't know where to look. I still rub on occasion, but not enought to bother me. If I ever upgrade the front leaf springs I doubt I will have any rubbing. Good luck.

My 285's don't rub at all. Not sure about the 305's.

You're supposed to be able to run a 295 with no issues and a 305 with possible minimal rubbing.(16 inch stock rim) There has been concern expressed with the 305's as far as width of the stock rim and proper fit of this larger tire(a safety/load question). The advice is to check with an expert before putting these on. If all checks out good, I am planning on trying 305's when the 285's I have now wear out. BTW, I've had not one issue with these tires rubbing. |

I have a 2wd, and tried 305's. The rears were ok. But the fronts hit the front fender going over the first speed bump. I switched to 285s and love it! |

On my '00 4x4 X, I'm currently running 295/75R16 BFG AT KOs on stock rims and the only rubbing problem I had was on the mud "flaps". A little carving with a coping saw and the rubbing problem was fixed. As a side note, the tires look awesome and fill the wheel wells very nicely.

Well, I went ahead and took a chance, and tried the 305's........NO problems at all! They're equivalent in size to a 33x12.50, and they look GREAT!
It appears that some have had different expriences, but I have found no situation(s) in which mine rub at all (going over bumps, turning all the way, backing up,....nothing)
I just wanted to report what my experience had been with these tires (by the way, some of my good experince may be attributed to the shape of the tire - I bought 305/70-16 Dunlop Radial Rover RV's. I usually buy BFG All-Terrains, and since they have a much "squarer" shoulder, they may have rubbed where the Dunlops don't - However, at ~$70/tire more for the BFG's, I wasn't going to find out!)
