| Quote: | the one on the front diff is easier to read though...4.30LS or limited slip is D-148-A . This is upside down though with four little boxs also upside down. The third box under the 8 in the above letters is MY gears printed 4.30. The other way is the rpm's at 70 mph is at 2200 rpms.... | Keith, get under the truck and look up front on the front axle. Those are where i got those numbers from

| Quote: | | Didn't see any of those codes on the rear axle. My label on the drivers side inside the door says "AXLE C3" Anybody know what axle the C3 is? | If you are 4x4 try checking the front axle, it normally will say 3 73 or 4 30 somewhere on it, also the BOM number can tell you the ratio, it will look like 611336-1 ("-1" is 3.73 for sure.) I think "-3" is 4.30.

After looking long and hard, I finally found the plate on the front axle. I've got 430 gears which explains why I can't get much more than 13 mpg's. Thanx all for the info in helping me find this info.

My 01 X got 16 mpg driving 80 mph from Greenville SC to Charlottesville Va. Reprogrammed the computer with Hypertech module and burn 93 Oct. Also on 5/30 Mobil Synthetic blend with a snort of Tufoil. Don't know if its cost effective in regards to the tinkering but it IS the challenge! |

What type of gas mileage were you getting before the hypertech module? How much was the mod? |

| Quote: | I seem to be getting less than the rest of you, don't know why. Computer reads 8-10 mpg around town , and I don't think I have ever gotten better than 13 on the highway . Towing a 6000lb camper yields a wopping 7-8 mpg's. I have an 01 4x4 Limited, Michelin tires running 60 pounds, and K&N drop in filter. I was just on the fence of selling this beast to pick up an Expedition with a V-8 for better fuel economy and a nicer (less truck like) ride, but it was cost prohibitive. Not sure how much better mpg's an Expedition will get me either, so I will stick with the size and V-10 of the X for now.
Keith | the milage your getting can depend on how hard on the gas peddle you are, I baby mine and I get 17+ on the highway and in town it drops to 9, but I spend one tank on the highway and another on the street, so thats why I know mine, As far as the ride of your Ex. I thought that mine rode like a log waggon, then I put my fabtech lift on it and it rides like a lincoln, trY putting a smoother shock ing there and you will fall in love, try a Gabrieal(?) gas shocks,
It really is all about size!!!!!! |

I just got back on a trip from Tenn with mine and I averaged 16.8 but I reset it and drove around town the last couple weeks and its down to 14.8. All I have is the mac cold air intake, exhaust, and superchips programmer set at tow performance. When I hook me enclosed trailer with my other truck in it I only get about 8.5 or 9 miles per gallon.

Kieth, your experience on the highway vs off highway mileage of 13 down to 12.7 is my daily normal driving to work, partial interstate and getting to/from the interstate. Coming in she goes down from 13+ to 12.7, then when I hit the interstate, after about a 15 minute drive, she gets back up to 13+. If I do a lot of in town driving, I get around 11 avg. but that is taking it easy. When I feel a little more aggressive and mash on it, it will dip in the 10's. My comments in other posts where I got 17+ like Brian gets is from an interstate trip, where I fill up just prior to getting in the interstate, driving 68mph on cruise, and she creeps up from the 15's, to 16's within the first hour, then after the second hour she is in the high 16's, then right at 2.5 hours just before I end the trip, it is hitting 17.4 (my max. so far). This is babying it, with a fresh coat of Mequires NXT wax, 3.73 rear axle ratio, and 50psi front, 55psi rear with BFG AT 265's. If I push a little faster on the same trip, in the mid 70's with an occasional run to 80 to get into clear traffic, it get's down to the mid to low 16's. Overall, very impressed with this mileage. My 1991 GMC 1/2 ton 350 V8 never did this good and weights 2000#'s less! The V-10 ROCKS! |

6.3 MPG around town. I am averaging about 10MPG on the freeway at speeds between 55 and 65. The 40's are what is killing me right now. The K&N charger helped out quite a bit when it was installed according to the previous owner. Either way....I wouldn't trade it for the world!!!!
