Yesterday I made a hard left turn and my water separtors light came on then went off. I took the truck in to Ford to have the water drained and to learn where the water spearator plugs are located so I could do it myself next time. As is turns out, there is one under the hood and one under the truck beside the front drive shaft(4x4). I posted 2 pictures of the plugs in my SFO photo album.
We where able to remove the engine side plug but the one beside the front drive shaft was seized and was not coming off. This is a fault with the 6.0L and should be replaced. My new water separator is on order and should be installed later this week under the bumper to bumper warranty. If you have a 6.0L I would check this out. You may need a new water separator because of this problem.
Also, after a little more digging, the owner aka "Us" should be removing these plugs once a month to allow water to drip out has per the service manual.
Live and learn I guess. But don't get me wrong the dealer only removes them went the water serpartor light comes on. Water separator plugs service is not part of the Ford Quality service check list.
JohnBoy this one might effect you Cheers |

Thanks for the heads up... but yep...
owners manual says once a month... which is STUPID why do we have a warning light then ?!?!?
I think I have the short in the system that others have seen...
drained two or three times, changed filters, and it's still on...
Oh well...
soon as I get my diable predator back and can clear the hard codes am briging it in...
I just HATE to give it up and have to drive a loaner for a week or two...

The sticky warning light is a by-product of the bad water separator. I know of another guy who had the same problem in a F250 and replacing the lower unit(water separator) fixed it. This all sounds like a recall to me |

I am going to need to examine my Powerstroke manual. I was sure it said to only drain it when the light comes on. While I agree that it should be drained as part of servicing, I do not remember reading that it should be drained once per month, and I went over my manual three or four times. I don't want my new diesel to blow up. I'll check again tonight. I took a quick peek underneath the truck when it was nice out, and it looked like it used a large allen wrench in order to remove the plug. Is this correct? |

Look in the Diesel Supplemental toward the back under General Owner’s Information. Check every month:
•Check function of all interior and exterior lights
•Check tires for wear and proper air pressure
•Check engine oil fluid level
•Check windshield washer solvent fluid level
•Check and drain fuel filter/water separator
Full instructions on how to do this task is under the General maintenance information heading.
But in short the plug can be removed using a 6mm hex drive, by turning it counterclockwise. Allow the HFCM to drain for approximately 25 seconds or until clean fuel is observed.
Hope that helps
Cheers

Thanks! |

Did they replace your fuel filters too? Not a bad idea if they didn't
The new filter should help the PSD stand up and roar. I know when I replaced mine at 13000Km their was a major difference. I 've also heard on other forms that leaving the filter for a while and using the programmer you can stuck the filter dry on 100hp mode and cause the X to gasp for fuel.
No harm, just crappy performance....this is something I'm sure your on top of |

Had actually changed the filters a while back - and even then the water-n-fuel light never went out.... so - the new water seperator unit was put in...
and can GAURANTEE MY 6.0 is not gasping for fuel the only gasping I hear is from my passengers with the way this thing GOES I mean it's not dragster fast... but it is for a 8000 lb beast
