I vote for the Ex...

Of course I'm biased and this sie IS fordexcursions.com

I do have the quad captain chairs and noted the less than optimal leg room for the second row captains, much less the third row !!!
But have never heard a complaint about it
(except for the Mother-in-law - and she's typical )

Have heard of one guy that didn't need the room behind the third row
and moved both the third row and second captains chairs back and it was AWESOME leg room !

And want some FUN... get the diablo Predator for the 6-oh ---- WOW

Heres my two cents. I was looking at both F250's and the X. We are a family of 5 and although I could easily haul all five of us in a crew cab F250, it is so much nicer in the X (if you have kids, you want to spread them out! Having the 3 of them lined up in the back seat sent shivers up my spine ) Either way, I was looking for the PowerStroke. I tell you what, I get a lot more attention in my 4x4 PSD X going down the road or at the stoplight than I did on my extended test drives in the F250. You just don't see that many around, at least around hear. F250's are all over the place.
If you are still indecisive, make the dealer let you have each one over night and see how they fit in your world. Thats what I did. I also drove the 2500 Burb, with the 8.1BB (8mpg!). I promptly took that back and said thank you very much, I'll be leaving nowI I will be hauling a 32' travel trailer with my X. this summer and looking forward to it!

Even if the X dies this year the parts all common with the Super Duty brothers. Ford must carry the parts for 7 years after killing a model so parts will be available for a long while. I have a lot of F-250 parts on my X. I think the X is the perfect suv beast.Carring 4x8 sheet rock, 5 kids, a DRZ110 dirt bike at different times but doing it well. You can always tighten the suspension up and make a good truck great, but try to add seats and heat the bed of a f-350 crew cab.

I have had both for about 3 years now & I like my F250 Crew Cab better overall.

Now, the X is quieter and has more room for kids and stuff. For business trips I usually take my staff in the X because 6 of us can ride in roomy comfort. As far as taking clients in the Truck, no problem, from Bank Presidents to business owners, they compliment on how nice the F250 CC is and generally opt to ride with me. I'd have to have the X or a Caddy Deville to match space for passengers. Of course with the X I have more room.

I have a Fiberglass cap for my F250 bed so I can lock up my stuff & that does improve the ride of the truck too. Without the cap, the ride is bumpy in the rear. The X steers much heavier & rides stiffer than the truck with cap. I am not happy with the ride of the X. I have done alot to make it ride like the F250 & it's better than it was when new. The X is going to get F250 Springs Front & Rear.

I have tried out the super cabs & they are very noisy "wind noise". You should test drive a Crew Cab before making a purchase. Then make a decision.

Occasionally I'll get fed up with the ride of the X, but then I remind myself of how much better it rides after the mods. My wife likes it, so we keep it.

Either way, welcome to the family!

Eric thanks for the detailed reply.

Some other things I thought:

During the test drive I sat in the back briefly. I was very disappointed at the lack of legroom for the back seat passengers (I'm 5'9") I felt like the SuperCab had as much or more. This fact somewhat negated the perception that this truck hauls people better. Of course it does but I think 99% of people would be surprised at how little legroom there is. I'm thinking that having captains chairs in the back would enable one to turn one leg towards the middle thereby being more comfortable. Possibly the back seats are adjustable and I just didn't see it?

It sounds like the days of the Excursion are numbered. I'm not worried about parts issues or anyting, but I'd rather have a vehicle that will be around. Part of my fear is probably being afraid of getting attached to the X and then when it's time for a new one having no choice but a pickup...;)

Your point about having the best of both worlds is exactly the boat I'm in. I want basically an SUV during the week and for long casual trips with friends or family. But I also need heavy duty towing capability to tow a car to the track and a trailer of go kart racing to the kart track. I looked at the 2500 Suburban and it was nice but it didn't compare to the DuraMax I tested side by side. I guess I'm pretty much addicted to the diesel power... The 6.0 in the Burban didn't feel as robust as I would have liked, and the gas gauge was reading 10-11 mpg. I was expecting more power although the engine was brand new.

It surprises me that Ford is discontinuing the X. I used to work for Ford so I'm fully aware about the business side and the size of the market etc. However there seems to be a lot of people out there who need both things. They already make the chassis so I can't see how they can't make a go of it by just putting a different body on it.

The Ford dealer told me that Ford is supposed to make an extended version of the Expedition. I'm not too sure that they'll make a heavy duty version or even something with a diesel but I guess we'll see.

hi apology for this may i know where to buy a go kart?
