Personally, I also like the tri-fold doors. At 5'5 and 110 lbs and would not look forward to the jump up everytime I needed to open/close the rear doors. They are easy to handle, not to heavy and get out of the way for loading...a perfect height for me. My 99 Explorer Sport had the big ol rear hatch, I do not miss it one bit. Even if the glass went down inside a one piece rear door tailgate style, I believe it would still be to heavy to lift back up. But this is just my humble opinion.

I also like the tri fold doors. I can have pallets loaded with a fork truck, without worry. With my Expeditions, it was always a chore to get a fork truck close enough without the pallet pivoting when the forks had to be reset to push the pallet all the way in. I realize this probably doesn't affect may X owners, but for me it is important. |

OH ..!! A wish list.. hhhhhmmmmm ok here goes.
First and formost. BRAKES , THEY SUCK, from a longivety point of view. I've never had a problem getting stopped but sure was discusted when i changed my front rotors, pads. I havent looked at the rears yet. Second. Parking brake cable. Come on ford.. lets see something that doesn't rot. Stainless perhaps?
Third and a personal pet pieve of mine. Hub locks. The selection knob is nothing but a disgrace to the plastic and engineering society. I ended up doing a bit of destructive dissassembly to figgure out why they ceez up. All you have to do is take one apart and you see why real quik. Mine work great----- now that I know how to get them apart. And as for the vacum control .... Ford needs a better idea.. It always has been and still is unreliable. Ford should know better.
fouth. ROOF. Its presently a micky mouse flimsy excuse for a roof. It needs to be firmer so a person can get up there and do things like wax, tie things down ect.
Fifth. HEAT the lower MIRRORS too. Those mirrors are just as important as the upper mirrors.
Also. make the lower mirror and extensions Powered.
Sixth, The front wheel well needs a mud/snow flap to keep the front bumper frame ect from being swamped all the time. Seventh, It would be nice if the tire steps came standard issue with the Ex.
Eight, A better paint job at the factory. I have a hair embeded in the paint on the roof and there is precious little paint on some of the not so obvious areas especialy under the hood on the fenders. A better chrome job on the bumpers also fits this category. I had my front bumper replaced before the EX was a year old because it had rust freckels all over it.
Nine. Get rid of the plastic on the bumpers and come up with a better means to mount licence plates. Licence plates have 4 bolt holes and ford should accomodate that. Has anyone else had the experience of mounting their front plates on the current arrangement Ford calls a licence plate mount? Also, a nice clear, durable licence plate cover for front and rear would be great.
Ten. Provisions for snow plows, winch. Makes the truck more multi role capable.
Eleven. Standard with PTO or automatic transmision Option. I would have much prefered a standard.
Twelfth. Since this is a wish list, the holes left when taking out the rear seat are a pain. Someone mentioned burying the seat in the floor, a supurb idea. And the lack of being able to open the rear window. Something that will open into a position that will allow traveling without the window blowing in the breezes would be real nice. Thirteenth, Provision for consumer electronics such as cell phones, tv's, two way radios, ect. This would include means to get cable connectors to anntenas up top thru the roof without having to drill holes or go thru weather stripping in the doors to get there, as well as something besides a Power Point cigarete lighter syle power connection. It would also be nice to have a place in the dash, (lots of room) to mount radios without having to resort to power tools and major modifications to accomodate them. Fourteenth. And just for giggles, how about a reliable rear quarter window assembly that is not so intermitant?
Fifteenth. It would be nice to have front and side window defrosters as well.
Sixtenth. A REAL off road Package Optiion. Its not tough to do better than the land rover these days. I would not want anything Fast perse but Tough and Durable and Capable would be key words that I would incorporate into something with an off road package label on it.
And last but not least. Better quality service manuals. They are presently a BIG price and really need work to make them better. As a for instance, I tried to find a parts breakdown pic on my hub locks and there aint none. Fords better idea is Change them. and the manual reflects this attitude.
Just take a look at what a hub lock assy is going for these days. Sheesh... I'm Getting old.
Time to add a bit more.... How about setting up the engine so that when a sensor quits, the motor keeps running instead of quiting. A good example is when the CMP sensor quits. The engine dies, and it doesn't matter where either.
I think this one falls under reliability.
Thats all for now folks.
Dave.

You know Dave, as I re-read your "request" I was referring to the wheel well shrouds that cover around the shock and the open area to the engine compartment.
If I read correctly you are looking for something that goes in front of the tire. Correct?
If so, I've seen nothing for that. Sorry for the confusion...
On another note...
I "requested" 18s to be made available on the Excursion. Looking at the new ordering guide, looks like we got 'em!
