I just got an 04 and it gets 22 cruising what would a gas one get 13 tops? I have a Dodge 3500 and it get 21 on cruise at 55. can't be beat. My friend has a big block gas Chevy and it 10-11 MPG empty tops and 8-9 towing. My Dodge gets 14.9 going from NYC to Pocono to race my Vette. The car and trailer is 5500 plus the bed and truck filled up. Try that on gas

Did u have an "emergency" honey-do project that came up ?????

DOH! That's weird. It cut off the whole end of it. Maybe my rambling put the squirls to sleep and they didn't finish displaying the post. Oh wait, I found I had a less than sign and it cut it off after that.

Here's the rest....

I expect I'll get 18+ on the hwy and around town I'll probably do about what I did in the Expy af anywhere from 12-15 MPG and that's short less than 5 mile driving most of the time.

Do I expect to recoup the cost for the diesel and tranny in fuel cost savings? Maybe, eventually but who knows how long that will be. I think as I start towing more, I'll care even less about all that and be happier and happier with the decrease in driving fatigue and drivability of a diesel overall. Oh, besides that, it's cool.

Someone asked about the resale of PSD vs V-10. For my 00 we added $7500.00 to the price of the V-10, when we looked it up in the Black Book car dealers use. So basically a v-10 would have cost me $7500 less. Which would have a rough book value with 70,000 miles of about $8000.00
I bought mine for less than rough book because it was a ford motor credit repo. On the gas controversy ya'll need to come here to central Alabama. I paid 16 cents a gallon less today for diesel than the cheapest grade of unleaded is!

I'm in SW Pa, and my diesel is 1.599 while 89 octane gasoline is 1.679. Interesting side note: I bought my X last August and the diesel price at "my" station hasn't fluctuated up or down since then.

I found that odd too, but I think it makes sense. When I first got mine, dielsel was about what reg unleaded is and even a little higher. Now like you guys, diesel is at least .10 to .15 cents less. Diesel has gone anywhere from about $1.52 to about $1.57 and that's it.

I think diesel is more related to the heating oil market, maybe? Whatever it is, I'm glad I'm not paying the $1.9x for premium I would have to be doing with my Expedition, unless I pulled the chip. The Excursion is already saving me a money over the Expedition. (well, at least I'd like to think so)

Actually, I think we can attribute the steady diesel prices to the powerful Trucking industry. They have a vested interest in keeping the OTR diesel prices stable. Now, if I could just figure out a way to use the red stuff without getting in trouble.....

It's non-taxable diesel used in farming and other such industry. It's dyed red to make it utterly recognizable. You get caught abusing it, you can get into big trouble and pay dearly.

Sorry for being vague. Red diesel, which Kevin explained, is considered "off road" diesel. In addition to farm implements, construction vehicles (dozers, loaders, those huge Terex dumps, etc.) that do not travel on public roads are allowed to use the dyed diesel. The theory is that the fuel taxes go to pay for building and repairing public roads (I wish that were completely true), and those vehicles do not need those roads, nor do they contribute to the decay of those roads.

just thought i'd beat the dead horse again... diesel is now 19 cents cheaper than LOW grade gas. if that doesn't affect your decision, not sure what will?

still waiting on mine...late april is still the word.
