just thought i'd beat the dead horse again... diesel is now 19 cents cheaper than LOW grade gas. if that doesn't affect your decision, not sure what will?

still waiting on mine...late april is still the word.

It's not always like that. Having owned a PSD truck for several years, I know the gas prices here in Texas (DFW area) were less expensive for more of the year than not - which always baffled me.

thast is odd isn't it Kevin?

I at least like the fact that the diesel was always a lot less than premium grade...
but should have been lower than the lowest grade... very odd...

I typically don't go looking around for it, but the "usual suspects" have it for about $1.59 this week.

Vince, I'm in Raleigh and I can ASSURE you that diesel is not that cheap here! I reckon I need to drive up to Burlington to fuel up!

OH, and...howdy neighbor.

IT is, indeed, odd. I don't know much about the refinement process but it seems to me it takes less to refine to a diesel state than it does to unleaded; but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I paid $1.46 at my local Costco the other day for 87-octane.

red stuff?? i should know, but oh well...

Sorry for being vague. Red diesel, which Kevin explained, is considered "off road" diesel. In addition to farm implements, construction vehicles (dozers, loaders, those huge Terex dumps, etc.) that do not travel on public roads are allowed to use the dyed diesel. The theory is that the fuel taxes go to pay for building and repairing public roads (I wish that were completely true), and those vehicles do not need those roads, nor do they contribute to the decay of those roads.

OK. couldnt resist. Those off road creatures still have to be transported from job to job.. Piggy back on a tractor trailer naturaly. So road decay... of course.

Road repairs.... Not here in Canada.

Dave.

I think your right. Its cheaper to make diesel.

You guys have it great. Currently, diesel is 64.5 cents a liter which is 8oz more than 1 quart. its 4.54 liters to an imp gallon so it costs me $2.93 an imp gallon here. The imp gallon is 32 oz more than the U.S. gallon. We've been paying 66.7 cents / liter most of the winter since the price goes up so that the govt makes more money during the peak heating season. Its usualy an average of 10 cents cheaper than gasoline which is currently hovering anywhere between 70 and 80 cents/liter. It depends on the time of day, day of the week, holiday weekend or not, who is in government and how broke they are.

One thing is sure. The oil companys don't seem to have much to do with all the fluctuating going on. It appears to be strictly local government.

When oil was $40.00 U.S. a barrel in the 80's Gas was 32 cents a liter. Go figgure.
