Ok, just bought an 2000 4x4 psd X. Its got 90k on it. What are some things I should watch out for as far as maintenance. It seems tobe in great condition, but you never really know. I know to change the fuel filter and that it takes more than 1 gallon of oil. How often are you all having to have the rotors turned, Ive got a shutter up front, probly rotors. Any info or suggestions would be great. I know, I know, read past post to find what you need. I will in time.

Thanks for the info

Congrats!

Actually the rig will take close to four gallons of oil. The book says to change the fuel filter every 10K miles but I've put two in at 110,000 miles. My uncles 97 powerstroke with 300K miles has had no more than three fuel filters! Lots of people say to make sure to use a torque wrench on the lug nuts to prevent warping of the rotors 155lbs if I remember. Make sure to check your ball joints from time to time, they can go out without a ton of miles. When the front wheels are in the air grab the top and bottom of the wheel and shake. If it moves there shot.

My wifes Excursion was bought last November with 104,000 miles. At 110,000 I swapped rims/tires off my F250 (33's). I was pleased to not only see brand new tires but also what looked like brand new brake pads on all four corners and the front ball joints seemed perfect. I'm guessing the parts have all been replaced at some point.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks for the info. We've a trip planed for this weekend. Cant wait to see what kind of mileage I'll get. Around town and short trips it says 14MPG. Thats nearly twice what I was getting from my Suburban.

Kelly,

If you are referring to the gauge above, I would not trust it! To accurately check for mileage is a lengthy process, at times, but fool proof.

When you go to fill up make sure you take the time to fill the tank I mean completely. Rock the X back and forth and get all the air out it may take a couple of minutes. Fill it until it's coming out the filler. drive and repeat.

The trick is getting all the air out and filling. If not you'll have off results as there could be 2 gallons of space consumed by air.

I have the 2000 4x4 psd LTD EX.

If you have a shudder.. its time to get it fixed NOW.
Don't wait till it grinds.. I did and its risky.
Chances are you only need to change the front rotors and pads but its best to check all around.

Check your air filter, Hub locks,( these are easy to remove and check) and all your universal joints. especialy the ones on the front axle.

Ball joints.. mine are fine but it pays to check.

Simple lubrication. Door hinges ect. Check to see if the coolant has been changed yet along with your trany oil. I also changed my differential oil at 2 years.

Batterys, If they are original, they are about due. Check the connection on the alternator while its running. If its hot to the touch you may need to change the connector on the wire. It could save you the cost of a new alternaor and a lot of anguish.

You might want to put a screen on the inside of your front grille. It keeps the bugs, pebbles, snow and rock salt ect out of the radiators. I have seen a number of Ex's with their radiator fins mushed up as a result of being hit with various objects coming thru the grille .

Wiper blades?

Rear quarter windows. Do they open and close without being intermitant?

Hopefully your tires are not near the wear bars.

Jeez.. I get long winded... lol.

Hey.. have fun and i hope you enjoy your EX as much as I have mine.

Dave.

Thanks for all the info. I did figure out the milage computer is fairly close. I was plesently surprised while heading across Texas with the c.c. set at the speed limit when I reached up and reset the MPG computer. I never thought Id see a vehicle this big getting over 20MPG, aleast until it comes to a hill.
