I hooked up my 16' trailer to get some decking material for a deck I'm building. I drive 20 miles to the lumber yard, load the decking, drive 10 miles to the "greasy spoon" for some breakfast, and everything is working fine. After breakfast, I start up the X and the climate conrol system is dead. Oh well, I drive home and notice along the way that my trailer brake controller is also not working. I get back, disengage the trailer, and still no climate controls. I pulled every fuse that could have anything to do with the climate control and trailering systems. All fuses good. Any ideas? Could it be pure coincidence that both died at the same time? TIA.

Update:
On my way home today, no trailer hooked up, I flipped the manual brake activator switch on my Prodigy brake controller and the climate controls immediately began working again. I guess I'll have to take the X to my local trailer shop to see if they can figure out what happened.

That is a strange situation. Please give an update when you can.

What I found when installing my Prodigy brake controller was that the aftermarket wiring harness I bought ... the one that gets hard-wired to the controller with a plug on the other end for connecting to the vehicle's harness ... was not labeled correctly. Fortunately, I double-checked the functionality of each wire before plugging the Prodigy unit to the juice, found the error, and rewired the connection.

Then, the very first time I hooked up my 18ft. flatbed car trailer, I had problems, but found it to be one of the fuses under the hood. I've had no problems at all with it since then.

BTW ... my 2001 X has the old style climate control ... nothing automatic about it.

I had my Prodigy installed by a trailer shop near my office. I would hope they installed it correctly. The odd thing about it is that I have used that big trailer numerous time before with my X, and had no problems. Just this last time caused everything to go haywire. It could because that trailer lives outside when not in use. Maybe something is shorted out on the trailer itself. I have 3 other trailers without brakes, so they only require the 4 prong plug. I drove back with one of them, and everything is still good.

I'll update when I get a chance to have someone look at it.

Might want to check this...

A couple of weeks back, I was planning on taking my Jeep out for some play time. I went and picked up my trailer from where it was stored and everything seemed fine. I loaded up the Jeep and got everything ready. I began pulling away from the house and, wouldn't you know it, no brakes. My Prodigy was showing an overload.

Anyway, I got everything unloaded again then crawled under the trailer. Lo and behold, the wiring came loose around the axle and got pinched in the spring pack. I grabbed my crimps and terminals and piecced it back together. The brakes work great now but, as Murphy's Law would dictate, it was too late to load up again and go wheelin'.

Thanks, Kevin. I do suspect the trailer itself as the culprit.

I recently took a trip from Los Angeles to Utah by way of Las Vegas. We were NOT pulling a trailer. Point is we stopped in Barstow, Ca for lunch and when we resumed our trip, the climate control system was completely dead. Had to drive all the way to Las Vegas to get to a truck stop where I could get some replacement fuses. I called a friend who is the service manager at my local Ford Dealer and he suggested checking connections behind the glove box. [Pinch the back corners of the box and it will swing all the way down to reveal the AC connections behind.] I pulled on 'this' and pushed on 'that' and didn't find anything loose. I looked at all the fuses and found all to be in good order. It was over 100 degrees outside at this time. Anyway, to make a long story short, after I put everything back together and started the engine, the AC was working again. That was a month ago. It still works. Oh, BTW, while we were in Las Vegas [just one day] my remote entry device on my keyring wouldn't work. After leaving LV all was in order again. I never did figure out what was wrong with the AC or the key fob. ???

I am beginning to think the trailer was just a coincidence. We stopped in Va Beach on saturday, to pick up my brother in law, who flew in from NYC. On Sunday morning, we went to church and the climate control was dead. I was dreading having to take the beast in to an unfamilier dealership while on vacation. After church we got in and it was working fine again, and has been ok ever since. For now, I'm chalking it up to gremlins. I will have the service department check it out while it is in for TSB 04-9-04.

Did TSB 04-9-04 fix the Drone on your X?

I'll let you know when I have it done. I'm on vacation now, and won't be back until 9/21. I'll probably get that service around 9/24.
