My 04 X PSD Ltd is constantly having rear vent window failure problems. They have changed both motors many times so far, only to have them die again straightaway. As best I can determine, most of the failure seems to be heat related. I live in Vegas, and once they are hot, they will not open. When I travel to cooler areas, it seems that usually one out of the two will function.

Anyone else having such problems? It's so bad, that it surely should be a recall item.

Thanks,
Dobermann

The vent windows in my '04 do that, too. Sometimes they just don't do anything. I'll drive for 5 or 10 minutes, then they'll work again. Of course, service "could not duplicate" and won't replace them.

I have read where cleaning you rubber gaskets on the back windows helps greatly. When they are dirty and un-treated they tend to stick to the window. I think they treated the gaskets with a silicone spray. I will look for more info.

This brings up an interesting point. Does anyone have problems with their liftgate adhering to the lower two barn doors? If my X sits outside and bakes in the sun all day, that liftgate is just about glued shut, or so it seems. Ususally takes a good couple of tugs to get it open.

Funny that you mention that. Today coming back from the Lawyers office I could not open my rear hatch also. Happens regularly too. I wax that area real good and still no better.

This would certainly explain frequently burned out window motors if the same thing is happening with the rubber seals around the vent windows. I've never had an issue with mine, although I rarely use them.

Dobermand and Orf,

I have had that problem with my rear windows too. I know it's not the relays because I can hear them switching.
However, the windows doesn't open. After driving a bit no problem. I'll play around a bit and see what I can find.

Just on a side note, the cost to replace one of the rear window is around $2600.00 cdn. I was took it's a really pain to do.

Ive had that problem with my hatch too. I tried silicone and then white lithium grease. The lithium grease fix seems to last longer. Unfortunately my X sits outside all the time, and most of the time in the sun, so hatch got "glued" shut almost every day. Someday I'll have to build a pole barn the park in. Also have a terrible sqeal in right side vent window motor, it works fine just sqeals. I suppose someday it will quit on me. Probably on a rainy day. lol

Thanks to all for your inputs. I have another appointment for this coming Tuesday for the dealer to fix them again. I am going to bring a print out of this with me to show them. Let's see what happens this time... while it is still under warranty.

Oh, and my rear hatch has never stuck on me..... yet.

Maybe if you brought a working Dobermann with you to service, they, too, would be "able to duplicate" Working Dobermanns can really intimidate - just think of the ones in the movie, "The Boys From Brazil" and you will know what I mean.

My highly trained boy goes everywhere with me, winter or summer. Sure is nice not having to be concerned about idling a gas engine for an hour with the air con on so he does not fry in the Vegas heat -- love that PSD!
