Oh, by the way, I will have fries with that .........what! .........can you turn off your..... ?!? Cheers
 | For the first 15,000 miles I could hear just fine. Then Ford turned off my pilot injection. Now I can't hear squat.
So much for that super quiet diesel engine Ford hyped. | Yes, I agree Ford has the loudest diesel on the market. I've listen to the new Chevy and Dodge and..........nothing, quit as can be....
Personally I like the noise, drive in front of Wal-Mart and watch the mother's grab their children It always puts a bit of a smile on my face. However, I also loved the sound of the PSD with the PI turned on...it sounded like knuckles on a big chalk board...
Just another bit of info, the new Chevy puts out 610ft/lb and the Dodge is 600ft/lb and Ford is now at 570.
But don't be sad, Ford torque curves (ft -lbs vs HP) are much better than Chevy and Dodge....

Those used to be the loudest, by far! I could identify the sound of a pre-99 PSD, 99-03 7.3 PSD, 6.0L PSD, Duramax, and Cummins by just hearing them.

It came out with the new body style for the 2500 and 3500.....it's an inline six. The logo on the front of the truck looks like this:
Very quit compaired to the old raddle horse with the old body style.

Not sure, I'm not a dodge man. However, I've heard the diesel in the new body style and it is very quit. Maybe they just reflash the old noise engine. Something has changed.. please don't make me research Dodge. |

I have several friends who own new CTD's. They are extremely quiet - possibly moreso than the Duramax.

I thought I crack up over the post about the mother's grabbing their kids at walmart. I thought that only happened to me. I turn my 7.3 off when I get to the speaker or they swear they can't hear. I even have to turn it off at the pharmacy drive through window and I'm 6 inches from a human and she says she can't hear my name!

Susan In Central Bama | Susan,
Welcome to the site. It's always nice to know when your not alone. The Wal-mart thing happens almost weekly...1 year later and it still makes me smile Cheers

All, be aware there is major talks going on in Mercedes Benz/Daimler cutting out the Cummins Diesel and putting in the smaller MBE 900 series engines (Mercedes Benz) in the Dodge trucks. Mercedes Benz/Daimler purchased Detroit Diesel after Penske sold his controlling shares. We, I am seeing a lot of the Heavy Duty trucks out of Frieghtliner and Sterling Trucks standard and better pricing with the MBE. Also, Ford just released a new V6 4.5L PSD being put in a "cabover" chassis that will be introduced into the Expedition in est 2005 and possibly a V4 PSD in the Explorer in 2005.
