Just rode 2 hours in middle & rear seats in our X & the drone at 45-55mph is annoying. How can I reduce the noise. Has anyone added sound deadening material to the inside of X with any success? Larry M from TheDieselStop had talked about muffler placement causing drone in the vans. Something about muffler distance from turbo made huge differences in Drone reduction. Anyone have any ideas?

Dennis....
guess I've never ridden back there long enough to hear that 
and have not had any complaints from the peanut gallery...
but I would imagine putting some sound deadening or better yet, "deflection", ABOVE the muffler/tailpipe along the length of the Ex would help...
I've thought of doing that myself since I've gotten the turbo back system on and have more room....

The BTM made an improvement on the interior sound from the exhaust,my wife and kids don't complain when on the long trips

Dennis, Is this the same drone some of us early 6.0L guys had around 1800RPM. If so, I have a fix for you... |

Mine was fixed under warranty. New turbo bracket, and distressing the exhast. |

Distressing the exhaust? How is it stressed? Hmm....
Some Buick / Olsmobiles had resonators in the tailpipe after the axle & muffler. Wonder if that would help in this application?

The way I understand it, which doesn't mean I'm right, distressing involves removing all the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the block, then reinstalling them. I assume it has something to do with relieveing the stress built up by thermal expansion. |

Just for you JohnBoy,
Here is the Techincal Sevice bulliten ( TSB 04-9-04) neutralize exhaust and possibly replace turbo pedestal. Like Orf said, it is cover under warranty and is straight forward for Ford to do. If you have this problem you WILL be much happier if you have this TSB done to your X. Keep in mind this is for the 6.0L only, not the 7.3L.

Well, I already put a turbo back exhaust on mine ....
but still asked them to do it
