Hey Eric-
Give me some details on that tractor you have. I just bought a new house and I need to get a tractor plus our drive is almost 100 yards long. Even though I am down south ( Maryland ) even us country boys can get some snow from time to time and that plow looks like it would fit the bill. Does the tractor have a cup holder option?!! LOL

Scott,

You bet it has a cup holder! Put it to use several times this summer.

It's a John Deere L110. Just one rung up from the smallest of their lawn tractors:

http://www.deere.com/en_US/ProductCatalog/HO/servlet/com.deere.u90785.cce.productcatalog.view.servlets.ProdCatProduct?pNbr=SKU20251&cNbr=HO_LT&sCName=100%20Series&tM=HO

Here's a guide to the "100 Series" tractors: http://www.deere.com/en_US/100series/index.html

Not sure how big your yard is, mine's about 1 acre with a hill that runs alongside of the house and street. For that reason, I went with the L110 because that's the model where the "full-pressure lubrication" is used on the engine...a good thing when the tractor will be running up, down, and alongside hills. It also has an automatic transmission which is very, very nice. I was used to having a gear selector...the automatic makes it very easy to maneuver around landscaping, trees, go in reverse, etc, etc. without "overshooting" your target due to manual gearing.

I also have a utility cart for the landscaping needs around the house. Holds a lot more than the wheel barrel!

Been very happy with this thing so far, it's the first John Deere product I've owned. When I purchased it, John Deere had a very attractive financing offer which allowed me to purchase the tractor and all of its accessories with no money down and no interest for one year. Hard to pass up a deal like that.

Just doing snow dances around here so we get a big first snow so I can put the blade to use. Also can't wait to have a reason to use the headlights on it, too. Gonna plow when it's dark. The wife always looked at me funny when I'd turn the lights on during the summer while mowing at dusk.

Eric- thanks for the DEERE info, as that is what i was leaning towards looking at in the first place. I think the L118 is going to find a home in my new garage.

Wow, been so busy with the new house, haven't signed on in a while and could have uesd your experience to help me decide on the JD to get...

on my own though, I just bought an L110 yesterday....
Hard decision on which to get -
the V-twin was calling me, but I already have new things calling for my budget dollars so the 110 is very high rated....

Only concern is the large number of trees I will have to manuver around....
wanted a ZTR, but again - those budget dollars held me back...

Hope I still like it next summer !

You'll really like the L110. Haven't had to use my pushmower since I purchased the 110. Just a few tight areas but the gas-powered weed trimmer does the job.

Did you get the bagger attachment with it, too?

My only complaint about it is the small oil filter. That was a pisser to remove! My oil filter wrench was too big, so I had to put several layers of duct tape around it to increase the diameter so my oil filter wrench would work. From an operational standpoint, this thing is great. Can't wait to see how she runs during the cold winter nights when I'm plowing up a storm.

I'm ready I guess.

Finally got the 8.5ft Western Pro Plow with back drag fixed. Remounted the solenoid with a up and down style Boss one and replaced the 9 wire connection on the truck side.

Then there's the Polaris 700 twin with the 48in blade to tackle the little stuff and the huge walk behind snowblower which just sits in the garage.

What I'm not ready or should I say anticipating is, clearing off all the snow this winter on new construction homes prior to roofing.

No bagger --- yet
I looked at it...
but the 110 comes with mulching blade and cover and I've been a muclhing guy for years...
so that'll do for now...

*****************************************
it's KILLING me to have that new toy out there and haven't even started it yet !!!
but with the new yard and all the rain we've had,
I need to get/rent a lawn roller to pull to flatten out all the ups and downs from the foot traffic with the fence guys, etc.... (didn't realize how much lumber,etc.. to fence 140 X 300 x 8 ft tall !!!!!!!!!!!!!)

pushed it off the trailer into the garage at night (and finding the "freewheel" switch and parking brake release on the automatic in the the DARk was fun !!!

Took me longer to find that in the manual than it did to buy it and get it home

Guess I should listend to the guy at Home Depot ... you know the feeling -
"I KNOW how to operate stuff !"

I rented a lawn roller, hooked it up to the 110, and cruised around the yard trying to flatten everything humanly possible! It was great.

We have an undeveloped lot next to our house which is overgrown with weeds, so I took the liberty of mowing the 4-to-5-foot tall weeds down with the 110 this summer as well. These toys are so much fun.

Yep, I'm a mulching-guy, too. However, we have this season called "winter" where the grass goes dormant and come spring time when it's time to mow again, it's a good thing to use the bagger to collect all of the dead grass and other miscellaneous stuff that has collected on the ground over the winter. Mowing year-round is such a weird concept!! It's enjoyable with a riding mower, though. With my push-mower, it was a good 2-hour job. I managed to get the right procedure down (took me a few weeks to figure out the best course to drive around the house) and have taken mowing time down to 45 minutes. Thank you, John Deere.
