Bill the skid plate is a plate welded to the bottom of the shock mount on the passenger side. for lack of better explanation it is at this ( / ) angle facing forward and is right in the way of where the sway bar is supposed to bolt up to the rear axle. Cant be done unless that piece is torched off as far as I can see.

I was able to find a business card from the last and only other owner and I just talked to him on the phone..really nice guy and he said all he had ever towed behind it was a small 5000 lb trailer...SWEET! He also told me all he had done to it service wise and saved me 75 bones by giving me the keyless entry door code!!!

BTW the steering is not loose in the sense that there is "play" left and right but that the steering is super easy and I guess having driven a truck with training wheels ( dually) for the past five years it seems to easy....?
Anyway we love the truck and now gotta find a DVD with a 10 inch screen for it..
Any ideas what the factory over head with 10" screen costs??
Thanks
Tom

The "skid plate" on the passenger side rear shock is actually a heat shield since the exhaust runs along that side of the X. The rear sway bar will bolt in just fine, as CHPMustang said above!

ok if you look here... http://www.eurekaboy.com/f250/heilwig.htm and see the I believe the 7th pic down, it shows a rearward view of the swaybar on the axle....that left shock ( on my truck) has a at least 10X10 plate that goes forward and up and will not allow the sway bar to be installed until it is removed....I hope this helps..I need to take pics and show you..

I'm pretty sure you're still talking about the factory plate that's on this shock. Here's mine and here's how the sway bar gets installed along with it:

Here are additional install photos of the sway bar (I just added some new pics with better lighting). Everything's a little rusty as the sway bar's been installed for over 4 years now.

lol no doubt Bill....!

Eric. did you use existing holes in the frame or did you need to drill into the frame? It looked like to me that there were two holes that could be used but I wasnt sure if they were the same level and is there a specific "setting" where the connections go from sway bar up to frame? It appears from your photos that they are in the bottom "rung" on the rods..
Thanks for all your help and your photos are awesome!
Tom

Tom,

Yep, use the existing holes in the frame. I think I probably could have used the set of holes that was further up on the frame, but I haven't had a problem yet. You want to get the sway bar to be level with the ground, if at all possible.

As for as which holes to use on the adjustable links...use whatever works! You want to be able to at least get 2 bolts through each set of links.

Tom when the bar levels up and you're on the driver's side and if you have to use the hole that the parking brake cable bracket is bolted thru just unbolt the bracket and let it hang down as that's what some or most of us do,there'll be no negative effects by doing that

I'll have the AOL IM and Flashchat up in case you run into a hitch.
