Hi guys...
I want to post a question that's been addressed a million times.
BUT, I have an honest dealer here in town that is recommending a Hypertec "plug-in" programmer for my 6.0 Diesel Powerstroke. I know.... everyone says to avoid a chip in the 6.0 (I've heard a thousand horror stories). But, he claims that the Hypertec is a safe one... AND, it's UNDETECTABLE by the dealer when you unplug it.
Well.... what do you guys think?
Any experience with Hypertec? And, any of you think it's worth it to get a programmer for my 2004 6.0 Diesel?
THANKS!

with 20 units and 100 people you will get 20000 opinions on this one

First off, Your dealer may be freindly and mod friendly and honest and ......etc ....

BUT, if you get in there with a blown piston and a $15K new engine bill...

How freindly will they be to you ?
Bet not as freindly as they will be with Ford
(where they make their money !!!!)

My opinion... if you're gonna do ANYTHING to your truck....
do not do it with any dealers participation !

Now, to the question of WHICH tuner to get ?
Man that's another 10000 opinions

Some like the Predator, some like the Superchips, some Like Quad, some like SCT, some like Edge, some like Banks, etc... etc....

Lot's of research, lot's of decisions about what YOU want for your truck, and you can narrow it down....

DO you want towing power only ?
Do you never tow?
do you want a hot rod?
do you want to increase mpg ?
do you want max power?
do you want adjustability on the fly ?
...
just some of the questions you want to answer...

FYI, your dealer may be suggesting it cuz that's the one he's selling... right !?!

glad to help, I've been thoroughly pleased with the one I've had for 30K miles....

and know this... once you get used to a "tuned" beast, you won't like drving a stock one !
more power AND more mpg AND more grins !!!!

Sorry for the confusion, but when I said "dealer", I didn't mean a Ford dealer... it's a close friend of mine that runs a a good and honest 4wd shop.
Since I bought my 04 Ex, I decided not to put a chip in it (from the horror stories I've seen). BUT, this 4wd guy swears by Hypertec. He says that since it's not a "chip" it doesn't store its power settinngs in the vehicle computer..... rather, it just sits piggyback and plugged into the diagnostic port of the truck. Therefore, it can be unplugged whenever I take it to the dealer.
HOWEVER, I hear that dealer diagnostic computers can detect a altered program, even after being "removed".
I don't care about more power (I already have 37's with 4.56 gears).
I only want it to INCREASE my crappy MPG, and re-calibrate the wrong speedometer reading (due to the tires). I really don't "need" more power.
Any thoughts?

ok, I see ;0

FYI, plugging a chip in is MUCH more noticable than a software programer...
to plug a chip in you hav to clean the factory protection off the contacts and invariably there will be scratches, etc...

Go fer it, though....

I've not heard too much about Hypertec as it's not one of the most popular tuning aids....

good luck !
