Hi Jukka I did everything "In-House" from the rear of the Excursion with no cables to run to the front
The how to article(in-progress) is going to be very detailed with nothing to miss!

Hi Bill
Well it seems that you are doing the job properly. I took the short cut. I "stole" the connection directly from the front turn signals at the same time when I installed extra turning signal lights to the front fender sides - above front tires. ( also regulation here ). Then I ran the cable on the side of other cables under the body to the tail lights and the brake light I took from the "top" stop light.
The reverse light I took off from the tail lights and installed a separate Hella-made reverse light under the rear bumper as the originals don't fill the regulations here.

Yeah, like these European and especially Finnish standards would be so much better than US-standards. We make only Porshe boxter here in one factory. Politics.

So Gentlemen, follow Bill's again perfect advice how to do the wiring properly.

I'll add the pictures of all the lights in near future.

Jukka, please do add some pics. I was giving the turn signal on the front fender some thought myself. I have a 2000 X without the signals in the mirrors. Figured I'm gonna have to run a wire for a turn signal to work in either a new set of mirrors or new lights mounted to the front fender.

Yes, please post pics of the side signals. I've thought about that mod also. i keep looking for ones that would look the best on the side of the X.

35" M/T Baja Claw Radials
16" x 10" Eagle Alloy Rims

For a fender mount I'd go with the Ford Australia part
Installation will require pulling the wheel liner inside.

Pulling inner wheel well is not big deal, had to when I replaced my Borla headers. It's the drilling of the hole in the fender the scares the hell out of me. Now, to figure out where to start looking for that part number.

Thanks for the pic, CHP

You guys will immediately know if this is a dumb suggestion, and since I've not done any volt-meter tests, I just don't know...but...

...can you possibly tap into the 7-wire harness for the trailer lights and get a separate brake signal from the turn signals to save running the wire from the steering column?

I know...can't be THAT easy, right?

Kevin Welcome to the Excursion Forums!

I'm sure it's possible to run a wire harness to the 7 pin connector underneath but I chose to keep the wiring all "in-house" to the rear of the Excursion without the need to running a harness from the rear to the front and to the trailer wiring which is basically too much work for me at least

I'm waiting for my Taillight Conversion article to be released anyday now so all those with interested in the DIY can get started

Stay tuned to the FordExcursions.com · Installs & Howto section for it to be added

The Bargman trailer connector would be an OK source IF you didn't want the European lighting. The Bargman connector provides both brake and turn signal inputs to the trailer through the same pin/lug. In other words, no can do.

And welcome to the "X Files."
