Hi all,
I was wondering how you could boost your fuel pressure on the 7.3psd. I know there are kits out there that have different shim thickness to do this; but is there an alternate way. I see in CHP Mustang's signature you have your fuel pressure at 70. What is min/max on the 7.3. Thanks in advance for the replies.

What I used and by far the cheaper $$$ wise is I used #4 stainless steel flat washers. The reason I used the washers is so I could tailor the psi up or down in 2-3 psi increments rather than 10-15 psi jumps by using the shaved head bolts.

Ford states spec for the Fuel pressure is "okay" 45-65 psi but Navistar states a flat 65 psi so I went with Navistar's recommendation of course

My baseline "stock" psi was 57 psi I used 4 washers"shims" and it stays at a comfy 69-70 psi which has worked out very well with no detrimental effects to the plumbing, water separator and fuel pump.

Maybe some of the 6.0 guys at SuperDutyDiesel.com might know of a way if it can be done as I'm more savvy with 7.3L's

Ok, read the post and checked out the photos. Can I and the rest of the amateurs get an explanation of what we're doing (physically) by adding the shim, where we can buy one (Home Depot?) as well as why the fuel pressure needs to be bumped? Does this affect fuel economy?

Thanks for holding my hand.

All it does is bump the fuel pressure to the injectors. It'll take less foot into the accelerator pedal for the truck to go and have read of improvements in acceleration, reduced engine noise, better fuel economy and better tranny shifting(I'll vouch for that!)

I went to Radio Shack and picked up the 100pc package of stainless steel flat washers, you'll want to use the #4 washers.

Each one is worth 1-3psi in fuel pressure adjustment.

Scroll up a few posts for the photo album link to Superduty owner FMTRVT as he did a good rundown on the removal and re-installation of the FPR cap and contents.

Swing by www.superdutydiesel.com and check in with member "Big Joe" as he pioneered the fuel pressure shim mod (use of washers)

If I have a Microchips supertuner "race" program ( 80 HP increase?) already loaded into my 2001 X, does this mod help me any?

Or does the new beefed up program already bump up the pressure?

Thanks
