Hi all, Finally got the opportunity to work on the X this past weekend Got the fuel pressure boosted up to 67 psi. Fairly straight-forward process. Got the shim kit and fuel pressure gauge from diesel innovations. While it is a little more expensive, it was easier for me to get one shim installed rather than stacking washers. The kit comes with 4 different shim thicknesses and a new adapter for connecting the fuel line to the fuel filter housing. As far as performance/economy, the X seems to run quieter and is more responsive. No results on increase or decrease in mpg, yet. Overall, I'm pleased with the results. Hopefully will have mileage gain/loss in a couple of weeks. Thanks to CHPMustang for the idea on using the washers .

The 80hp program changes the fuel/air/timing mixture for the most part but also modifies the transmission's shifting characteristics.
The mod will bump up performance on top of any program you have loaded into the engine.

Thanks *VERY* much for the explanation, CHP! I really appreciate it. I'll have to try that out. My first "big" towing event is coming up in two weeks. 2.5k trailer, 5k Jeep, and a bunch of hills between Phoenix and Moab.
Thanks again,
Kevin |

Sorry for the Delay in replies I been busy on business on the west coast the last two weeks I like the SS flat washers dues to I can more accurately dial in the Fuel Pressure in 2-3 psi increments as each FPR has more tension than the next as if you we're to slap in a shim bolt like DI carries you could get 65 psi on one and 100psi on another which could be VERRRRY bad as the stock fuel pump can't handle that load on a long term and the fuel filter lid could blow right off or suffer severe fuel leaks which could result in a Diesel shower I've found that 69-72 psi is the "sweet spot" the 7.3's like Bill

ok Bill excuse my ignorance,so you do use ss washes(with the hole in the middle..haha)and do feel its a worth-while thing to do...i.e. possible power gain and better mpg? |

Yes after the washers get the edges filed down some to fit into the brass plunger the fuel will pass thru the weephole with no probs.
The results from bumping the psi from 54 to 69-70 via 4 washers is nearly day and night.
Quieter engine, way better accelleration, improved notchier tranny shifting in each gear and would have to easily note a 1-2 mpg gain but I have to run thru a couple more fillups to get a better average It's an extremely worthy mod for the 7.3L's Bill

Well, now I've done it. I broke off the externally threaded portion of the cover where the compression nut attaches. Are the covers available anywhere else other than the dealership? I got everything else taken care of. Sawed off the flared end of the tube so that I could get the nut off...and then purchased a flaring tool from Home Depot and a set of easy-out screw extractors from Sears as well...so I should have everything that I need...aside from the cover.
I'm off to the stealership unless anyone has a bright idea on where to buy one easily (local to me in Phoenix) and save a buck or two.
I hate it when a simple mod gets far more complicated. A $1.99 expenditure (washers) and some time turned into a purchase of $50 worth of tools, a cover, and a bunch of time. Murphy is a bastard!
