Ohhhhhh I like this mod! Very simple to do and I bet I am missing alot. I just better be carefull not to force anything and have the same problems as Kevin did.

Will this cause more black smoke to come out of the truck? I love when that happens. People get on my ass and I mash it and I smoke fill their car. HA!

I had the same problems as Kevin did to some extent. I only put 3 washer in but it was enough to make the spring to tight and pop out the center section of the FPR cap now there is no tension on the spring and I only get 24psi when the pump is on. Originally, I started out with 54psi. I had the truck on with three washers and it was reading 98psi. So I took one out, still 98psi. Then I ran the truck for a few minutes and the pressure was slowly dropping. Before you know it, it was 24psi so I pulled it apart and noticed the problem.

So I went back to this thread and followed Bill's (chpmustang) recommendations and found this link.

The Factory Fuel Regulator Replacement with shims.
Will this fix my problems?

Sometime it's the gauge itself thats to blame as we recently found out,I had an extra new one on the shelf swapped it out with our original test gauge and all's good again.

Going with the $39.95 DI cap assembly is much much better than the pot metal FORD OEM piece,I say git r done Luke!

What I have found is that the facory spring material leaves allot to be desired. Mine did this also and the dealer was the quickest way to repairing the problem. There are some aftermarket springs that don't require shimming. One of these sets the pressure to about 90psi. I know many feel this is dangerous. After years in the hydraulics field, I've seen control valves that run at 3500psi with more clearance than a PSD injector bore. In fact the bore clearance in the oil rail and the fuel rail which both are sealed wih O-rings. The oil has up to 3000psi and people worry about 100psi in the fuel!! Personally I have one running at 78psi and the other at 90psi. If you want to go for the 90psi or more, GDS supplies a spring that goes in and makes 95psi the first time. The iceing on the cake for this mode is a fuel air seperator. Get the air out and sit back and hang on.
