Hello All!

I have been a long time lurker on this board and reading all of your comments about the X finally brought me to my knees. I was a Chevy man for 10 yrs. owning 2 Suburbans during that time and now I am a proud owner of a beautiful 05 X

I love the way that this thing drives and am totally impressed with power and torque of the 6.0 diesel engine. Not to mention the comfort inside.

My question to the board is this. Where should I begin with modifications to my X to improve:

1. Gas Mileage

2. Performance

3. Ride

4. Anything else that you guys recommed to this vehicle.

I am ready to start playing around with my X and would value any input I could get from the board.

Thx.

LT

1.) Aftermarket air filter, exhaust, and a chip.

2.) Definitely a chip, most bang for your buck.

3.) Aftermarket shocks (Rancho, Bilstein, Edelbrock are good places to start)

4.) Your '05 6.0L has just about everything! Keep reading up in the forums for additional information on the above and other modification ideas. Many of these questions have been discussed in varying lengths by other members.

Welcome fellow Metroplex'er !!!!!!!!

If you like the 6.0 now, wait until you "tweak" it a bit....

give us a bit more info about your X...
4x4 ? limited ? etc... etc... and of course Pics are mandatory !!!!

The single biggest improvement to me was
the remote start for our DFW summers !

secondly, without question, was the addition of a programmer....
Unbelievable throttle response for an 8k+ lb vehicle...
beats my nephews tricked lightning for MUCH longer than his testies can handle

AND 2 to 3 mpg improvment IF you can stay out of it....

thirdly, was the 3.5" to 4" turbo back exhaust,

fourth, IMHO, were the Rancho 9000's I got from a northtexas powerstroke member when he lifted his X.

Dang - I got many more neat things to list... but that's the top items in my opinion....

After 2+ years it still is my favorite vehicle !!!

E.Long & JohnBoy...

Thx for the input!

A little more info about the truck. 6.0l 4x4 Limited(mineral gray), 3.73 diff, trailer package, quad captains chairs, DVD, the works... Pics will follow when I get them.

JohnBoy...where did you get your remote stater installed and what brand? Also, should I be concerned about voiding my warranty with a programmer? If, not then the Edge chip seems to be a good choice. What about intake modifications?

If it were you guys, what would your first mod be?

My first mod was an alarm and a remote start. I have a Viper 550 ESP alarm/remote start system. The remote has 2-way communication so you know if the alarm goes off and you can also see if your vehicle is started, too (great for when you don't have line of site with it).

I personally would not put a chip in at this point unless you do other modifications to the transmission like an aftermarket torque converter and valve body. My transmission died at 87K and when I had the X towed into Ford (I left the chip installed), they voided my warranty on the spot due to an installation of the chip. $3000 later, I was back on the road minus warranty. I even paid for 100K extended warranty and they voided it. I did not do any towing, just around town and highway driving.

If you do go with the chip, make sure to remove it before bringing it to the dealer so they are not encouraged to void any warranty on your X.

I'd look into an AFE aftermarket intake/air filter. This and other brands replace the entire air box to allow for cooler air intake and much more surface area on the air filter vs. the panel filter in the air intake box that comes from the factory.

Just want to add my opinion, I just picked up my wifes 05 X Limited last week & the first up grades are as follows: Husky floor liners, Cover Craft seat covers, Ford splash gauards all around, 3m paint protection system on front end & normal wear points. Almost forgot, 2 cans of black gloss rustolium to everything not painted by factory on under carriage, driveshaft etc...& a Lund bug gaurd. Lets face it for what these things cost a few bucks spent now pay off a few thousand @ resale, or many years of service. Plus, w/ 3 kids & a dog that are into every thing it doesn't take long to make a mess. As far as performace goes this truck out of the box is great, & it's the wifes daily driver so longevity & dependability are key. Good luck & happy Xing.

I agree with you on the Husky liners and the bug guard. He in TX the bugs are nasty and the dirt is even nastier.

Like your idea on the rustolium. I trailer my boat down to the TX and LA gulf coast and that would help protect my truck from the salt and sand.

Her in NY every sping I use a modified sprinkler that pulsates & rotates, I pull it under the truck to thoughroly clean the under carriage. Usaully I spray every thing down w/ a garden sprayer using Zep T N T (truck n trailer wash ) then give it the wash down, works great. The Zep T NT is also excellent at removing those black streaks on trailers, just make sure to follow the dilution ratio it is powerfull stuff. Frank

Oh, and I got the ford gold remote start .installed...
had it done as part of the sale and worked it in so it's under the 100k warranty too (I hope :-) )

LOVE it and use it multiple times a day....

I venture to say I will NEVER have another vehicle without some form of remote start...
just too nice to have it pre-cooled in these hot dfw summers !!!

Unfourtunatley I have not received the 3m order yet, I ordered for my F350 & my wifes X. Last week my buddy had his 350 Harley truck done proffessionaly & it came out real nice. I think the key is the quality of the pattern is key.I ordered it from www.cleartechnologies.com 540-320-9755, I dealt w/ Jeff & he seemed very helpfull. As soon as I get it done I will post the pics. Frank
