I just purchased a 05 4x2 Excursion Limited and I noticed that the rear end sits much lower than the 4x4 version. I would have purchased the 4x4 but there was not one to be had in California for at least 12 weeks. What modifications would you recommend for this one. In and Ideal world I would like the profile to match a f-250 with a FX4.

I already added 285 x 75 x16 BFG TA Allterrain tires vs the wimpy Pirellie Scorpions that it came with.

What shocks and springs should I use.

I probably need better sway bar as well. Is the Ford 30mm OK or should I get the Hellwig?

supercrewjohn,

Just wanted to say "welcome to the club!" I'll let the other 2WD owners chime in on suspension lifts for the 2WD Excursion.

Wish it was just that easy. I'm not sure you will ever get that perfect match... or really want it. You can go w/ springs or blocks in the rear, plus your choice of shocks to match. It may really effect your steering stopping etc. If your EX just saggs, then replace the springs or have them re done by a spring shop for best results. Have tried the lift one end with out the other before on several trucks & have never been real happy. A complete kit seems to work much better. But most kits will still look somewhat level. Good luck!

Sorry, forgot to add.
The Helwig is real nice & the price is right. For my money, its the way to go.

Thanks Big Jake.

I have seen a lot of people on this board using the U or V code front spring and like the F-250 Rears. I am assuming I should probably add torsion bars as well because this is a 2wd. Is that true?

Also, I was thinking about Bilstiens shocks. What do you thinks about those?

Supercrew - WELCOME to the "X-Files"

Those V & U code springs are leaf springs. I believe the 2WD models have coil springs up front, and I do not know how they're coded, if at all. There are a few companies offering lift kits for the 2WD models.

I'm not certain how they deal with the front coil springs. They may provide longer coil springs, but most 2WD lift kits simply provide a larger lift-block (goes between the rear axle and the leaf springs) and longer U-bolts for the rear-end.

If you go with the larger rear lift blocks, you may want some way to keep that rear axle in a controlled arc to eliminate a condition known as spring-wrap, especially since your axle will be located further away from the springs ... like the 4WD models. Check out the following info on this website for more info.

Three things to do off the top of my head:

1. Add-A-Leaf. From Tuff Country.

Will raise you 1 inch or 2 inches depending on model. http://www.tuffcountry.com/

2. Helper springs from Hellwig

See the website description http://www.hellwigproducts.com/helpersprings/index.html

3. Airbags from Airlift or Firestone

By the way, Airlift makes bags for the rear AND the front of the Excursion. Firestone does not. make it for the 4x4. I do not know about the 4x2. Check the sites above.

i have a 2wd v10 and my biggest improvements so far are bilstein's all the way around, helwig rear swaybar(cant even tell you how much this helped),ride-rite airbags a must to level out the rear also loaded without the air bags pulling a 7x16 enclosed trailer with 4 bikes looked like it was a low rider in the rear so if you want to tow airbags are a must! ,radius-rods coming, and for stopping drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads. these items are a must for any excursion in my opinion!
