"Just at the right throttle position it will produce a rattle sound. Sounds like a loose cover or sheild. But everything is tight. When towing the boat it is more pronounced. "
FYI, I think there was a post about this probably a year or so ago. I have the same condition with my 01 X, turned out to be the flywheel cover rattling. Look under the front center of the vehicle where the tranny is, you will see a metal 1/2 moon shaped cover if I recall correctly. It's there to keep "stuff" from getting into the flywheel gear. Mine would rattle, think I stuffed a piece of velcro or something to stop the vibration and it worked OK for awhile, but after a year, it's back every now and then.

Some ideas:
Clunk sound during braking could be the ball joints on the side you hear the clunk. Do you feel it in the floor on that side?
For the vibrating sound - believe it or not, check your muffler for a hairline crack. At just the right RPM and warmed up, it could vibrate giving you the impression it is a heat shield. The hairline crack would not make the exhaust loud. The crack can be welded rather than replacing the muffler. |

Didn't even notice that. Hope the original poster solved his problem. |
