Hey Kevin,
Did I miss something here. Won't the struts from the 4X2 work for you? How tall are you? My EX is a stock 4X4 with the 7.3 PS Diesel and stock suspension and I changed from the 4X4 struts to the 4X2 and it lifted the rear glass enough that I can now move around under it without hitting my head. I'm 6'2" tall. I was not able to get replacement struts at Pep Boys so I went to the local Ford dealership for them.

Yeah, earlier in the thread I mentioned that I'd gone to Ford with the part number that Bill posted and got the same length that I currently have on my 2wd, which is 14.5" long from pin center to pin center. There was no gain to using the ones from Ford...they are equal to what I currently have. I'm 6'4". If the rig was 4" further in the air (like the 4wd version), I'd have no problems.

Okay, and the 4X2 sits lower than the 4X4. Bummer. What else can you do aside from a total lift for the EX?

I'm going to look into doing the bracket approach and see if that works. Shouldn't be THAT difficult.

Hell, maybe I'll even make a batch of them and sell them to other Excursion owners who want to have the same thing and have hit the same dead-end I have. How frustrating!!

Sign me up. I'm sure others would be interested, too. I was looking at it this weekend...there's gotta be a better way to do this. Or at least have 2 levels of opening the lift gate. I know Ford did it so people wouldn't back out of their garage and nail the lift gate on the garage overhang, but there should be some way of extending the lift gate to a 2nd, taller level...or something.
