Actually like to go back to a stmt you made that ford built u a new one because of the the nest ???
If you think about it, why would ford feel liable enough to build u a new one for that ????
Unless it was there from the day you purchased it.... and STUNNING that you nor anyone else saw that!!!!

Hey John boy...
Ford actually bought back the first one for several reasons.
1) the squirrel nest created a complete barrier to the radiator. Two of the wires were chewed through. On its maiden voyage home, it overheated blowing the head gaskets. 2) the intake looked as though it was taken apart... and was not connected to the intake.
3) tools were left between the engine and the frame... who knows why.
4) the alternator was not mounted completely and was wiggling loose.
Based on all of these issues... as a brand new one day old vehicle.. they bought it back.
As for the noise / vibration on the second one..... we are still waiting ......

You state that you have a similar noise / vibration comming from yours. What does it sound like... can you give me some specifics. I assume you have not taken yours to the dealer yet.

Greetings all. I've been silently surfing your site for several months - your comments contributed to me buying an 05 ex back in May. Love it.
I have the same exact same problem on my 05 Ex described in this thread - but didn't know it was really a problem until I read some of the posts.
Interestingly I first noticed a drone when the engine revs at EXACTLY 1,500 RPMs. At first I thought it was speed related, but I later realized that it was RPM driven. The dealer validated the noise and confirmed that it was related to the turbo mount (or something to that effect), and that it was normal/couldn't be fixed. I think this may be a different problem....
Later I noticed that a similar drone would develop at higher speeds as well - it became noticable at 75-80mph, loud at 90, and really loud at 100. I haven't yet brought this up with the dealer - I just assumed it was normal for a Ford HD truck. I haven't yet attempted to switch into Neutral at those speeds to see if the noise disappears - will try that (maybe tonight).
I can best describe the sound as a drone that gets progressively louder at higher speeds. I sense no shaking or shuddering - just increasing noise levels. At first I thought it was tire-related - now I'm not so sure.
Just out of curiosity - don't Ex's normally get louder at higher speeds (engine noise aside - this is definitely not engine related).... |

Alright - went out for a drive to double check - it's been a while since I last thought about the problem.
My truck's got 6000 miles on it, btw. The drone is faint (bur present) at around 80mph, and does indeed seem to disappear when the gearshift is switched into N. At 90mph the drone is very noticable, and also seems to fade when switched into N - although not completely. I can't figure out whether it's indeed a powertrain issue, axle issue or perhaps just an overly excitable imagination and essentially just tires & exhaust. Nah - pretty sure it isn't the latter.
BUT - the truck doesn't shudder or shake. And it takes someone as pedantic as me to point it out to others - my brother and his fiancee didn't notice when I pointed it out at around 500 miles on the truck, and my wife's never really seemed to notice/care. To her it sounds like a truck, and trucks are supposed to be noisy, right?
Reluctant to bring it back to the dealer - last time they fixed a squeek in one place only to recreate it elsewhere. And they blew the AC whilst in service, claiming it was a freak occurence that could happen to anyone. And this was it's first time in the shop. Can't imagine how they'd handle a real (i.e. potentially serious) issue.... They sure know how to move 'em off the lot though. |
