Sounds like a classic case of the dealer biting off more than they can chew.

I ran into a similar problem (replaced wrong part) when my X lost all of its oil due to a leak. Brought it to a dealership, they said it was the rear main seal. Replaced it, I drove away happy...until a week later whne the same thing happened. Brought it back to the dealer, "sorry, we'll replace it again." Week passes...same problem, lost all oil. Fed up, I brought it to a different dealer (mainly because I was in a different state) and they knew the problem right away based on EXPERIENCE.

Old diesel tech on staff said that it's common for inexperienced mechanics to mistake that leak for a rear main seal. It ended up being a turbo pedestal seal that was leaking oil down the back of the engine. Problem solved.

Thankfully, it was all covered under warranty so I didn't have to pay a dime. I would have been livid if they would have expected me to pay anything for the incompetence. If I need to bring my X into a dealer, I make sure it is a dealership that has several diesel trucks on their lot. Not one or two, or even ten. The fleet dealers seem to have the best diesel mechanics and typically run multiple shifts to cater to larger businesses who can't afford downtime like I experienced.

On a separate note...when I had a chip installed and my transmission went bad, Ford denied warranty coverage at site of the chip. No further testing. The mere presence of it meant that it was the sole cause for transmission failure and there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't plead my case at all.

Good luck with your dispute.

Boy I'm go'n blind in my office reading all my research and makeing two copys of it. Yesterday I recieved my hearing date for the BBB. I have filed complains with everybody that has legal capabilitys to go after them. This BBB has an agreement with Ford motor co. to handle there disputes. I will be seeing a independent arbitrator on the 12th. The letter said to bring all my paper work regarding the said repair and the truck with currant registration and proof of insurance.
