When I drive my Excursion I can be zipping around at 70-75 and it just doesn't feel like it. It may be that I spend a lot of time on my motorcycle (2003 Suzuki SV1000N) where I can FEEL myself going at those speeds. But my pickup doesn't give my that same feeling not knowing how fast I'm going.
Could be the low exhaust note makes the engine not sound frenetic at 3K rpm, could be the size of it...anyway...I'm just thinking out loud... My wife feels the same way about it. Odd...

We have had our Excursion almost 2 months and my wife and I agree. Feels like I need to get out and push and I look down and I am doing 60 in a 45. |

Hey Guys and Girls
ITS ALL RELATIVE - isn't it?
Just got the diesel Ex last week and drove it back 1450 miles from Denver to Pittsburgh -
impressive as to ride - 65 mph - 85 mph - pretty much the same by the old seat-of-the-pants
method - (Note to self: Learn to Deal with It)
Just got rid of Land Rover DEFENDER 90 - YEP, ol' Jungle Jim was right - drive down the
highway at 55 - seems like 90 - tires screaming, canvas flapping - radio doesn't matter -
conversation impossible - all at 8 mpg on Premium
Drive 10 mph through woods, up trees, through snow bank - OK, I did it - lets see what
you can do!
(Note to self: OK, you dealt with it for 12 years - just what its all about)
Other Ride: BMW 750il with every piece of speed stuff Dinan sells - approach line of 18 wheelers on two lane - pull left and hit it - pass trucks and pull right - look at Speedo -
Buck 10 - didn't feel that one - 'Warp Factor 1, Mr. Sulu???
(Note to self: "Easy Big Fellow - John Law ain't buying anything you can say!!)
First Choice Cross Country - Summer - BMW
First Choice Cross Country - Winter - Ex
First Choice Off-Road - Maybe a new toy
Conclusion ????
RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG - when ya brung it - most importantly,
ENJOY THE RIDE !!!!
Regards

I think a lot of it is we're so HIGH off the road surface....
Ever been in/on a go-kart ? 3 inches offf the ground and 65 seems like 165 !!!!!
with the Ex (especially the 4x4's) so high it's partly the height and partly the MASS that's around you...
the wife got rid of her Lincoln LS cuz the gas mileage was as bad as the Ex, but she tired of driving the Ex as a daily driver and fighting the in town traffic in it...
SO, we got her a new 06 Mazda 3 and now it's too SMALL - she feels intimidated great little car thus far - nothing wild and fancy about it, but 27 mpg the first tank ain't bad

John is correct. Being that high off the road does give you the sensation of traveling slower at a particular speed that you really are. I could explain all the physics but you guys would be flaming me! |

It's the same feeling for everybody. When I am FORCED to drive a regular car, I feeel like I am racing down the highway like a mad man. It is only when I see the little old ladies smiling and passing me that I realize that I'm only going 45 mph. on a 65 mph highway. !!! |

You know your vehicle is 'humungus' when you drive it all the time and get in your wifes Honda Odyssee mini-van and IT feels like a go-cart! I can't imagine hopping in somthing like a Miata

Weird thing, my F-150 is bigger (longer) and since both are 2WD it is the same relative height. Maybe it is because the F-150 has a sunroof that is usually always open... (You can do that in Hawaii. )
I love my Ex.
