Hello all
I'm in the process of selling my V10 for a Diesel and I'm having trouble deciding on the 6 or 7.5. I've read that the ealy 6's were unreliable. However, these reports that I've found here are from 04 and I was wondering if people still feel that 04 and newer 6's have the bugs ironed out? I like the mod-ability of the 7.3's but doubt that I will do anything too crazy. Although, I do want to outfit the truck for biodiesel and have heard conflicting info about the 6L injectors going bad(whether that's a bio-D problem or a 6L problem, I don't know). Also,I like the adjustable peddles in the limited 04's and was wondering if 02 limiteds come with this feature. Thanks for any help you could give me!!!

I can only comment on what I know from my experience with a 04 Limited 4x4 PSD. I LOVE the hell out of it! I will admit I initially had a problem with it when I bought it, although I bought it as a buyback from a local dealer with 11k miles on it. Replaced engine wiring harness and FICM harness and have had no problems since (just hitting 36k miles this week!) I don't have any of the oil leak problems that some seem to have out there (knock on wood here) No turbo farts, surging, injector problems, power loss or anything. I love the 6.0 PSD. I feel no need to modify it in anyway, I have power to spare when I tow my 10k # TT. There is no better feeling in the world then flooring the 6.0 and feeling the turbo spool up and getting sucked back in the seat. Not knockin' the 7.3's though, they are tried and true workhorses and speed demons in there own right The other added bonus of buying a 03 or newer is the 5spd torqueshift tranny, gotta love that thing!

If you are going to buy used, investigate everything about it until you are satisfied. Get an OASIS report so you can see what all has or has not been done at the Ford dealer to it. Doing a CarFax is also useful in that you can pinpoint a buyback vehicle. Have it checked out by a independent diesel pro as well.

Good luck in your purchase!

Yeppers, I'd get one of those 7.5L' too
just pulling your leg there - it's a 7.3L

My limited experince is
an 02 7.3L Limited Excursion,
an 03 6.0L Limited Excursion,
and now
an 05 6.0L Eddie Bauer Excursion....

Wouldn't have kept trying if'n there were problems....
now the 05 is head and shoulders above the 03,
and the 03 was head and shoulders above the 02....

NO comparison.... both in build quality and performance...
not that any of the others were bad, just that the new one is THAT much better

I love my 7.3. Wouldn't trade it for anything. As for the 6.0, I think that most of the issues with the engine have been corrected that were coming up during it's initial release. As gawent said, INVESTIGATE everything until you are comfortable and have a warm, fuzzy feeling. Concerning the adjustable pedals, I would think they would be available in an EB or Limited version during 2002 and after since that was a big year for Excursions as far as available options. Good Luck in your search
